I wanted to see what the collective thoughts were here, as there had been mention of this (you can't deny that).  We had a poster on BV that suggested, or actually flat out stated, that as long as everything is between the whistles and legal, as in allowable tackle, anything goes, including tackling someone low if there is a known ankle issue or going for a bad shoulder if there is a knows dislocation issue.  My reply is that it was effing BS, dirty and cheap, even if all legal.  I maintain my position.

If UND's linebackers have the time to decide to go low on Wentz instead of tackling him however they can, then I think you're probably going to have bigger issues to worry about.

Good point.  Like most teams have, you have to tackle him from the waist down because of his size.  Going high is not the way to go.

The problem is guys like CAS are going to call "conspiracy" as soon as anybody even tries to hit him below the shoulder pads.

If UND's linebackers are going to tackle any of the 'su posters on this thread, I don't care if they go high or low, just want them to follow through and get good hip drive.

There is a lot to be said about getting a good hip drive...................

Cheap-shotted MT's QB?

It's called physical defense.

UND plays it.

Does NDSU still play it? Sure didn't look like it when I watched NDSU choke against Montana.

Agreed, we stunk up the already smokey WaGriz stadium--I got nothin'!!

I don't think you'll see anything intentional.  However if your 220 lb QB is running a sweep play at a DB, CB or even LB will do what it takes to bring him down.  I anticipate the NDSU fans calling it a dirty hit when in reality it is a completely legal tackle on a big ball carrier.  Your thoughts?

If they do, they don't know football and have certainly never even been involved in try to tackle someone the size of Wentz.

The only time they may have time is on from coming free on a blind-side blitz, you my guess is they be aiming high while chopping at the ball for a fumble

Wrong, but not surprised.

I will be surprised if the Bison rush for over 100 yds.  I'm more concerned with Morlock receiving out of the backfield.  I think our DB's will be fine against their WR's.

Our OL needs to step up big time.  Big Time.

Vraa and Urzendowski are both tough though, always have to account for them.

UND coaches will not tell them to go for the ankle

In every football game I watch I inevitably see somebody get tackled by an ankle, if they aren't able to completely wrap up high....they slip off and grab onto the ankle and hold on for dear life until somebody else comes over and makes the tackle.  if this happens to Wentz, it is not dirty.....it's just football.

I don't think that hit on MT was dirty.  When you are going full speed attempting to make a tackle......you can't completely stop in a split second if you hear a whistle.....plus it's was probably a bit noisy in there that day.  UND is not a dirty team, but you and Montana can continue to feel that way if you'd like.

Wentz should worry about not hurting himself......don't fight with a defensive lineman, WWE style, when more defenders are coming!!  That's how he got hurt.  It wasn't from an ankle tackle.  For UND, a tackle is a tackle.

The majority of Wentz's rushing yards this year have come off of read option, not scrambles.

He was on his game Saturday for sure, but not so much against MT.  Also, he has a bit of problem with timing/touch on long/over the top balls, and we did not try any of those last Saturday.

With respect to his ankle, there were no noticeable signs of any pain or problems Saturday.  Here is the question I have for you guys:

Knowing that Wentz had/has a bit of an ankle issue, will you purposefully try to tackle low when you would otherwise not do so?  To me, that is dirty football. Would Bubba and staff actually suggest/promote that?

I've heard that some on this board are suggesting that your staff should "coach" for shots at the ankle.

Thoughts please . . .

If I am the coach I don't even mention it. Guys should tackle like they normally do. If you try and change your style or game it usually leads to missed tackles and big plays.

Plus, your LB cheap-shotted MT's QB last year and knocked him out of play for several games.

I wasn't in my usual spot that game. It appeared to me he couldn't be reasonably be expected to hold up in the split second after the ball was gone. What did you see from your vantage point?

I'm sure if Wentz is touched a millisecond after releasing the ball, the locals will equate it to clubbing a baby on the 50-yard line

That's complete garbage.  It was no worse than NDSU's linebacker launching himself headfirst at Montana's QB after he had startd sliding, putting his helmet/should pad into Montana's QB's helmet.

I don't know anything about the UND hit on the Montana QB last year. But the UND fans claiming the DeLuca hit on the Montana QB this year was dirty, what did you think about the UND D-backs hit on the Drake QB who was sliding in the second half on Saturday? They were identical plays. Was that hit clean?

The word over on Bisonville is apparently NDSU is going to try to ban, any and all Sioux apparel from entering the stadium. Forcing people to turn anything with the Sioux name and logo inside out. Not sure this is something they can enforce or not, but I'm sure it will be controversial, and I'm sure it will not work.

The student section at the Drake game was chanting F the Bison. As for banning clothes, they can't do that...freedom of speech. The Sioux name and logo are historical. They better ban those Sioux Suck shirts they wear.

i wore a Sioux Suck shirt to a volleyball game a couple years back. They escorted me to the bathroom and had me turn it inside out.

That's a much smaller scale but the precedent is there.

I liked DeLuca's hit.  QB's are suppose to slide before contact, not as contact is forthcoming and impossible to stop.

I know we are not suppose to be nice or agreeable, so suck it.  (I kid I kid)

I think you can relax.  I agree with you what was suggested here was BS but I don't think Bubba and his staff are taking direction from people posting in a chat room.

You never know what players will do in the heat of the moment.  I remember watching Phil Hanson body slam the UND QB long after he had pitched the ball and gladly took the 15 yard penalty.  It clearly looked like an attempt to injure or at least intimidate.  I doubt he was coached to do that.

Bison fans: "this game is not important (paraphrase) blah blah blah too good for everyone" (34 pages in the UND NDSU thread on bisonville, started yesterday)
UND fans: "this game is important, but it does not define our season"

I agree I don't think the MT hit was dirty, it was a bang bang thing.....you can't completely stop your momentum when you are going 110% after somebody.  I think the MT hit by NDSU was brought up because if you guys (Bison fans) are going to say our hit was late and dirty, it equates about the same as your hit on the MT QB.   I don't think either were dirty.  Are MT fans claiming it was dirty, if so maybe they are babies because apparently they still have an issue with our hit on their QB.  I haven't seen that many Bison games the past few years, but from what I know and/or have heard I don't think NDSU plays dirty these days.

I was at the game and saw the play. The quarterback was trying to make a play he ran out of the pocket over to the sideline. The hit came just as he released. It was not a dirty play he was inbounds. It was football played to the whistle. It got a little exaggerated because it happened in front of the MT bench and their coaches reacted.

Weber could barely catch up/get to Wentz, so they didn't really have that option.

Oh, and your previous post telling me to grow up. ONE OF YOUR VERY OWN ADMINS HERE SUGGESTED UND TO TAKE SHOTS AT WENTZ'S ANKLE, SO KMA!!

Plus, your LB cheap-shotted MT's QB last year and knocked him out of play for several games.

So, again, KMFA!!

C'mon CAS. Really? Is there really an "allegator death roll ankle tackle" technique to teach? I thought you had a better grasp of reality.

And you can honestly say you never hit a RB with a bad shoulder up high, or drove him down on it, on purpose? Or you can say you never saw a game plan modified to put more pressure on an immobile passing QB?
