Quote The Grand Forks Committee of the Whole is set to review on Monday a tax increment financing “pre-application” from Edgewood Development Group LLC, which hopes to add to an existing downtown building. The proposal calls for a 104,000-square-foot addition to the existing 60,000-square-foot building at 322 DeMers. City staff recommend that the committee invite the developer to submit a full application. here's the link 1

forksandspoons Posted November 17, 2022 Posted November 17, 2022 I believe that's a different project than the Olive Ann Hotel, which is a new building being built connected to Edgewood and much larger. Maybe they're both being done by the same group, but there are two hotel projects underway downtown.

tnt Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 Just curious if Fufeng will be allowed to build elsewhere in the U.S., as if they are that dangerous, you would think they shouldn’t be in the country at all.
Nodak78 Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 Grand forks dodged a bullet. Could had great implications with the AF base, UAV, and aerospace. Probably more to follow down the. US is in the process of cleaning up the of CCCP involvement in the US.

That’s the interesting part some say if they don’t it was meant for espionage
90siouxfan Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 if the chinese project was a financial positive, why didn't or doesn't the GOBC make it happen?

The Sicatoka Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 If you don't know China has satellite capabilities and electronic interception capabilities as good or better than the US you've not been paying attention. They didn't need an antenna at a corn plant to spy on GFAFB. ... or a balloon over Montana. They can sit up in geosynchronous orbit and listen and watch all day. The next obvious question is Cirrus ... owned by a subsidiary of the Chinese government-owned AVIC. 2
The Sicatoka Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 One more thought: When a potential adversary is doing something so obvious and overt ... why? Because it's a distraction to what else they're doing. 3

There is new legislation being considered at the federal level that would ban companies tied to foreign governments from buying property in the U.S. I haven't looked into the details, so I'm not sure if this would cover all foreign governments, or just those that we consider to be potential adversaries.

The next obvious question is Cirrus ... owned by a subsidiary of the Chinese government-owned AVIC. Devil's Advocate here. I'm not entirely convinced either direction on the national security issue: We know when they are orbiting directly above us. We wouldn't know if they set up some surveillance equipment on nearby property. We could do counter surveillance by doing an "OSHA inspection" on the factory, but what's to stop them from removing that equipment when they know the inspection is coming? Cirrus was a wholly owned American company when it was established in GF. The building was built by Americans, and the admin staff was hired by Americans. Has there been unusually large amount of admin staff turnover since it was sold to a Chinese company? I don't know. The difference with Fufeng would be that a brand-new building is being built by China, which would make it much easier to conceal things, and the admin staff would be hired by China which would put their people in key positions that could help hide such things from inspections. edit: also, the tall factory building would have line-of-site surveillance opportunities that the existing cirrus building does not
