We should have done the Wyoming model and had one "flagship" or whatever. Yeah, we'd lose an annual football game but other than that... would be good for academics. Think of all the overhead we are dealing with now. Quote
SiouxFan100 Posted September 21, 2022 Posted September 21, 2022 Yea one big school and maybe three smaller ones would have worked for ND. Quote

SWSiouxMN Posted September 21, 2022 Posted September 21, 2022 Wasn't there a poster a long time ago who stated that UND would becoming nothing more than an online school and the state would be looking to close it down. Wonder whatever happened to that particular poster? Quote

SIOUXFAN97 Posted September 21, 2022 Posted September 21, 2022 can't wait for a governor to say..."this is insane!' we will have one 4 year flagship university in Grand Forks and the rest will revert back to 2 year schools. Quote

Sioux>Bison Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 If any of our nursing home representatives at the state legislature had some balls they would close valley city and mayville at a minimum. When these schools were created was a different time than now. Make Bismarck, Dickinson, Williston, and Minot should be turned into 2 year colleges. Some would say political suicide , but I think ND voters would be onboard! No more subsidies for these small town schools close to the big schools! Quote
The Sicatoka Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 I understand the sentiment but it's not < snap fingers > easy. Most of the schools are called out in the State Constitution <- amendment process. The only present city not called out by name is Bismarck (and that's one I would keep). And those targeted schools would band together creating a larger east/west political riff which wouldn't be good for UND. Quote
AJS Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 Is state funding strictly tied to total enrollment? That would be UND: 13,876 / NDSU 12,242? The number that really stuck out to me was first time freshman. NDSU: 2,513 UND: 1,753 On Campus Full Time NDSU: 9,608 UND: 7,664 (or 8,457) Clearly with all the improvements made around campus that there is still very much an emphasis on on campus learning. Hoping to see those numbers tighten between the two. Quote

There's also an increased funding amount for certain credits, like engineering compared to English. 2 Quote
jdub27 Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 "On Campus Full Time" is an interesting one. I would assume there is a large number of students who take at least one or two online class along with all of their in-person classes. Haven't looked through the numbers yet this year to see how that's broken out. Quote

Safe to say that UND has a huge number of hybrid students on campus (taking classes both in person and online) in an attempt to finish faster and reduce debt load. 2 Quote

Oxbow6 Posted September 25, 2022 Posted September 25, 2022 Article in Fargo Forum this morning on UND's increasing enrollment. Have not seen an article yet about NDSU's declining enrollment. Guess McFooley is too busy with articles on racism, EVs and 1/6. Quote
