SU slips a couple hundred and we gain a hundred.
Pretty close.

Enrollment:
Not as close,
SU 12,242
ND 13,876

Remember, Chapman's days of him paying tuition to set hock?

The fact we felt the need for two "big" schools was a huge oversight for the state. We should have done the Wyoming model and had one "flagship" or whatever. Yeah, we'd lose an annual football game but other than that... would be good for academics. Think of all the overhead we are dealing with now.

Or we could cut more of the fat with the other 4 year schools in the state

Fargo refused to accept their role as the agricultural college.

I don't disagree, but in a one school scenario, that school should be other than on the Red River.

If any of our nursing home representatives at the state legislature had some balls they would close valley city and mayville at a minimum. When these schools were created was a different time than now. Make Bismarck, Dickinson, Williston, and Minot should be turned into 2 year colleges. Some would say political suicide , but I think ND voters would be onboard! No more subsidies for these small town schools close to the big schools!

I understand the sentiment but it's not < snap fingers > easy. Most of the schools are called out in the State Constitution <- amendment process. The only present city not called out by name is Bismarck (and that's one I would keep).

And those targeted schools would band together creating a larger east/west political riff which wouldn't be good for UND.

Is state funding strictly tied to total enrollment? That would be UND: 13,876 / NDSU 12,242?

The number that really stuck out to me was first time freshman.

  • NDSU: 2,513
  • UND: 1,753

On Campus Full Time

  • NDSU: 9,608
  • UND: 7,664 (or 8,457)

Clearly with all the improvements made around campus that there is still very much an emphasis on on campus learning. Hoping to see those numbers tighten between the two.

Not entirely, it's based on credits completed (so enrollment does have an impact).  There's also an increased funding amount for certain credits, like engineering compared to English.

"On Campus Full Time" is an interesting one. I would assume there is a large number of students who take at least one or two online class along with all of their in-person classes. Haven't looked through the numbers yet this year to see how that's broken out.

Those numbers are still being compiled by the Office of University Planning & Analytics. Safe to say that UND has a huge number of hybrid students on campus (taking classes both in person and online) in an attempt to finish faster and reduce debt load.

It wouldn't be political suicide if the voters support it.

Those 4 year UNIVERSITIES started out as teacher colleges.

‘now they are universities make them 4 year colleges and any masters or doctorates would be done in GF and Fargo

should only be 2 universities

Make the 2 year schools trade schools

Go back to the branch campus concept. UND-Williston

ageed

NDSU- Fargo-Dickinson, BSC, Whapeton, VCSU

UND - Grand Forks- Williston, Minot, Devils Lake, Bottineau

Close Mayville High, obviously...

Then close VCSU and Devils Lake.....

Then consolidate Bottineau into Minot and Wahpeton into Fargo.

Go from 11 to 6 institutions.
