UND is currently #24 in the PWR.
The loss to ASU and the tie against UNO are certainly not helping right now.

We have two games at home against a #3 team that needs no intro to the Ralph. Come late Saturday night we are getting a much better peek at our fate.

Did he cite any data beyond last year? It's math and all so can't be hard to measure deviation from final based on the weekend number.

I was never a fire Hakstol guy and you can go back through 15 years of posts to verify.   We knew what his teams were and what to expect.   Slow start and go on a tear to the Frozen Four where the letdown and heartbreak happened.

Berry is different and has a track record of either not making the tournament or one and done.

Poor performance on the ice comes poor coaching and over evaluating of talent.  I think it is clear that he does not think this is one of the top programs anymore as where is the high end talent.   Yes he won a title in 2016 but with Hak's kids which included a first round pick.  The last time they had a forward who was a first round pick was 5 years ago with Jost.  Every time he has had a chance to bring in a high end forward he has messed it up and they went elsewhere.

I will reserve full judgment until end of season but things aren't looking good at this point.

Well said sir and I’m in total agreement

I am skeptical of this coaching staff too. But in addition to the 2016 title, weren’t we the number one seed in the tournament the year the tournament got canceled at last minute for Covid?

Denver was low in the standings last year when we swept them at the Ralph.  How did the season turn out for them?

So tired of cherry-picking one team and thinking that North Dakota is gonna turn this around come March.  This team has some big-time problems in all facets of the game.

Agreed.
And last year's games between UND/DU at the REA were a lot closer than this past weekends.
Friday night 3-1 UND win with an ENG.  SOG were 23 each.
Sat night 4-2 UND win with an ENG.  SOG were 28-22 UND.

This year's UND team has more areas to clean up than DU did last year at this point in the season.

Team is currently 4-5-2.

On December 11th, if we are not 10-7-2 or better we switch into trying to secure home ice and then win the NCHC tournament to get into the national tournament mode.

A home sweep, a home and home Bemidji sweep, and a split at St. Cloud and Kalamazoo.

Pairwise... this is the bare minimum.

It's going to be really troublesome to take a loss or even tie in the next two weeks.

Before the season, I would have thought this was definitely realistic for this stretch.
Now, I'm not sure we'll be able to get there.

I'm an eternal optimist for this team, but what I saw on Saturday was disconcerting. It's happened a lot this season, but was SO bad on Saturday... folding to pressure in our defensive zone. I can't even count how many times we missed the first pass or the chip out in transition to get out of the zone. It was horrendous. Turnover after turn over after turnover. Teams are recognizing (ie. Minnesota, ASU, Quinny on Saturday) that we aren't being poised enough to make that first pass with patience or chip it up the boards.

It's incredibly fixable. It feels like a lack of trust and continuity to know where each other's outlet is. We saw it for glimpses against DU both nights -- when we are able to get out and get into the offensive zone, we have the puck talent to create.

Still have plenty of hope because I do believe in the players in the room. Plenty of contributors who have done well in the past and plenty of new faces who know how to play the game. The pieces are there. Gotta figure it out and do it quick.

We need a get right series against Miami. Two big ones coming.

A couple of thoughts about the team. They were so bad Saturday that I quit watching when DU scored to make it 5-2. It was painfully obvious that there was no way UND would win that game. It looked like a bunch of 12 year-olds playing. Is DU that good or UND that bad or somewhere in the middle?

So I looked at strength of schedule today thinking that we've played three teams in the top five in the current poll. Surely we are number one in SOS. Ah, no. 17. Makes no sense.

A home series against Miami is coming at a good time. Sweep and get some swagger back!

You made it that far?

2-1 followed by seven turnovers by UND in one zone entry by DU and the remote car starter was triggered.
