The students even unfurled a banner for Kelley’s ouster at the REA. Kennedy made tough decisions that some of the faculty hated (dropping WIH and M/W swimming, laying off staff, dropping academic programs, suspending a golf course) while the only thing that Kelley did was finagling a way to drop the Sioux nickname where he didn’t get the blame but let every financial issue fester.. Its rare the the students recognize the real problem. Kennedy did a lot of good for the University. The next president will be rewarded. I know some profs cried over losing positions. I expense needed to be trim. Same with W/H. And other. If could have been a smoocher like Glass he would have been a hero. He did his job and moved on. Next president gets the credit. 1 4 Quote
Popular Post Cratter Posted May 2, 2019 Popular Post Posted May 2, 2019 All the next guy or gal has to do is not piss off donors or call the state racist, and they'll be ahead of the game! Kennedy set the bar pretty low for the next president. 5 Quote
Hawkster Posted May 3, 2019 Posted May 3, 2019 I was glad when Kuppy left and I'm glad now. Main objective going forward is going to be that we don't pull a CU and turn our hiring process into a Gong Show event. Don't assume that someone can't find a way to totally screw up who we get. 1 Quote
NoiseInsideMyHead Posted May 3, 2019 Posted May 3, 2019 Everyone knew this was coming. Is it bad for the NDUS or Chancellor not to have issued a perfunctory statement? Are they gun shy after the Chancellor botched his letter to Kennedy so badly? Quote

Brad won’t quit until there are 40 fans cheering the women on in the playoffs. Quote

A new president won't open that box (you can't bring just one sport back, you have to bring them all back... this is what people don't get... also just imaging the uproar in the departments who have been deeply cut.) 1 Quote

Sioux>Bison Posted May 3, 2019 Posted May 3, 2019 Hopefully the next president can pick us a new logo. So embarrassing traveling around the US and people think the logo on your hat is a philli eagles logo. So much for setting our identity. This is why many can’t move on from the Sioux logo.... 1 1 1 Quote

So, the standard for a “good” logo is whether you encounter people who don’t recognize it? Wow. So I guess the Brien Sioux being confused with the Blackhawks was the death knell for that one. And the interlocking ND with Notre Dame...that one never stood a chance. Hate to say it, but right now Mark Kennedy being a controversial CU hire is 10000% more perceptible to the public than the Sioux, the Hawks, the Ralph, the 8 hockey titles, the campus, the academics, and everything else that you appear to think that UND is, combined. UND has an identity. UND is UND. UND will never have anything close to the brand recognition or market penetration of mid-level D1 schools, let alone professional sports franchises. And no logo will ever change that. Not understanding “identity” is why people can’t move on. Quote
Oxbow6 Posted May 3, 2019 Posted May 3, 2019 Not that I tilt in her direction politically but when does MEK and/or UND make a call to Heidi and ask "You interested?" IMO she could do the job. 3 2 Quote

So the complaint with Kennedy was a "tone deaf politico with a penchant for angering segments of the constituency" ... and you want to replace with a tone deaf politico with a penchant for angering segments of the constituency. I won't defend Kennedy, but at least he had proven fiscal (CFO) and academic (GWU) chops before his arrival. 3 Quote

MK had none. 5 Quote
Popular Post The Sicatoka Posted May 3, 2019 Popular Post Posted May 3, 2019 Dear Ms Engelstad McGarry, Congratulations! What you asked for has arrived! You are now free to give without reserve or restraint as Mark Kennedy is gone. I look forward to your signed press releases, as follows, in the immediate future. Talk's cheap; back it up. Quote We, the trustees of the Engelstad Family Trust hereby turn over all assets and control of the Trust to the UND Alumni Association and Foundation. _____________________ K. Frozen4sioux Posted May 3, 2019 Author Posted May 3, 2019 The last thing UND and a new president needs right now is adding the hasle of management and the expense of upkeep of the REA. The next pres needs to begin to plan for the eventuality of those issues. But its the last thing they need right now. Quote
The Sicatoka Posted May 3, 2019 Posted May 3, 2019 PCM wouldn't take this wager. Any takers here? Wanna bet a cold beverage that MRK’s tenure at CU looks much like at UND, namely, some ugly budget decisions that get knickers in a twist and some dead weight (facilities or staff) is ‘discharged’, and he’s gone before 2023 … but he got paid. UND AA&F is a separate private entity; the president is ex officio on that board. 1 Quote

They are doing a great job with that; they would do a great job with REA. Also, both facilities could coordinate their schedules; thus avoiding them competing with each other for events. Quote
