What additional women's sports do these fans want to see to help balance that out? It doesn't seem that the NCAA has any problem with it - why do you? Quote

They related it to playing North Carolina in basketball, Texas in baseball - every year. Not the Summit League and FCS football. Then UND went and beat UNI in 2006 and people figured it out pretty quick that it wasn't Alabama and Ohio State. Which is why I say now that leaving to go FBS and play in the MWC is not that big of a deal and would be very underwhelming for any FCS fanbase. The most excitement would in the first 4 non-conference games. I don’t think playing in the MWC for football would be underwhelming at all. It would be a step up from the MVFC with the addition of 0-2 P5 games per year. Maybe an FBS football only league could be created that could leave the rest of the sports in the Summit……???? Quote

Playing G5 and P5 teams are what most fans want now. You keep skipping over the problem of all the other sports teams at NDSU!!!! That’s where the main financial burden is to move all sports to the MWC!!!!! NDSU football could financially make it at the FBS level but can they finance the rest of the athletic department????? It would be very difficult!!!! Way more than 2 million a year that you are complaining about. Quote

The Sicatoka Posted July 29, 2021 Author Posted July 29, 2021 Not long ago the board chatter was it'd take about an additional $2-$4 million annually for an FCS to jump to FBS. Where'd that go? It always seemed to come up if @SiouxVolley even thought the letters F-B-S. Quote

All it takes is an interest on campus and a push with the annual survey and NDSU would need to account for those interests. So, if a group of hockey playing ladies wanted that opportunity. NDSU would need to add or start to explore new programs which is the danger with the approach that NDSU takes in meeting Title 9 compliance. It's a risky and potentially expensive roll of the dice.. Kab Posted July 29, 2021 Posted July 29, 2021 Right now I’m more interested in seeing how fall enrollment ends up,for both schools the number I will look for is students on campus and not online students hard for online students to attend many functions at either school Quote

For 2019: UND gave out $5.5 million though 208 full equivalencies to 328 student athletes. NDSU gave out $4.8 million 180 full equivalencies to 323 student athletes. Further details: UND gave $3.1 million to 176 males (116.5 full equivalancies) and $2.3 million to 152 females (91.5 equivalencies). 56-57% going to men with the remainder to women NDSU gave $3.0 million to 204 males (111 full equivalancies) and $1.8 million to 119 females (69 full equivalancies). 62-63% going to men with the remainder to women Adding 20 additional scholarships to the mens side would officially have NDSU's athletic department giving twice as much student aid to men vs. women. EDIT: Removed UND 2020 info and added 2019 info for a better comparison Quote

Goon Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 I don't know if anyone has seen this: Quote No program at the FCS level has been as dominant as North Dakota State over the last decade or so. Their resume of FCS dominance and national titles under three different head coaches recently doesn't need reviewed, but remember back in 2016 when a darn good NDSU squat beat #13 Iowa and the Bison nearly cracked the FBS top 25 the next week with 74 votes in the AP Poll? Perhaps the time has come for NDSU test their chops at the FBS level. According to the Nielsen DMA Rankings used to measure media markets, Fargo is home to 116th strongest market in the country. While that may seem low, the home of the Bison is ranked just ahead of Eugene, OR and just below Lansing, MI when it comes to available media viewers. Quote

zonadub Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 When you take a look at the geography, and I do this with tongue planted firmly into cheek, MAC is too far east, MWC is even farther west… So, why not Big 12? Their wrestling team can lead them into the promised land. Actually, Fargo is larger than Lawrence, KS, Manhattan, KS, Ames, IA, Stillwater, OK and Morgantown, WV. And the F-M metro is bigger than Waco, TX. Heck, even Grand Forks is bigger than Manhattan, KS and Morgantown, WV… So why not both UND and NDSU? Then if you also add SDSU (close enough to Sioux Falls) and St Thomas, the Big 12 is back to 12 teams. 1 Quote
