Next year the Midwest regional will be in Fargo. UND and The Ralph put in a bid for this year to try and get it in Grand Forks. The NCAA wouldn't bite, Denver put in a bid for Lovland. They get the West Regional this year and next.

I might be overreacting, but I find that sort of attempt at trickery to be really gross. You have a good thing going in Fargo, why push it? I'm happy it backfired. I also wish this was more well known, they deserve backlash for it.

I'm aware, but it's not this year. It's not so much losing the regional this year, it's intentionally trying to game the system that I'm disappointed in.

Notre Dame bid with their home arena, and because nobody else bid they got it.  How were they to know that Loveland would start bidding on regionals.

Everyone understands how the process works, you seem to be missing my point. Not the hill I'm going to die on though.

Now I’m developing a scenario that gets wonky.

UND vs Sacred Heart or AIC and Clarkson vs Providence in Worcester...sets up David vs Goliath.  NCHC vs Atlantic Hockey in a regional hosted by Atlantic hockey.  Unfriendly confines for us out East there for sure.

DU vs Quinnipiac and BC vs UMD in Denver...region of death.

Mankato vs Northeastern and PSI vs ASU in Allentown

Cornell vs New Hampshire and UMass vs Ohio State in Albany.

only stated rule being violated is #1 seeds being placed closest to home in rank order.  Can’t do it with UND and DU, because DU is host.  You could send UND to Allentown instead of Mankato, but it’s a flight either way.  Better to keep bracket integrity...

so it’s Worcester this week...

Nate Wells from NCAA:

Worcester Region (Worcester, MA - Host Holy Cross)
1. North Dakota vs. 16. American International
8. Clarkson vs. 9. Providence

Albany Regional (Albany, NY - Host ECAC)
2. Cornell vs. 15. Northern Michigan
7. Massachusetts vs. 10. Ohio State

Allentown Region (Allentown, PA - Host Penn State)
3. Minnesota State vs. 14. New Hampshire
6. Penn State vs. 11. Arizona State

Loveland Region (Loveland, CO - Host Denver)
4. Denver vs. 13. Northeastern
5. Boston College vs. 12. Minnesota Duluth

I agree with your 'region of death' :)

Something about a #1 overall seed getting rewarded with a plane ticket to travel 1,500 miles makes zero sense to me. And this would be true if it ends up being UND, Mankato, or any other western school not named Denver (since they host a regional).

If UND stays the #1 overall seed, they would likely be in Loveland with DU if DU is either a 2 or 3 seed.

I think if DU is a 2 seed at #7 or#8 overall then if UND is #1 overall they would be in Colorado but if DU was #5 or #6 I think that doesn't hold bracket integrity very well.
