Those were so much fun. I'm certain there will be a gathering at Patrick McGoverns Pub.

I understand the need for it, but it's really disappointing for me, living in the Twin Cities. Making the time to get up to GF is difficult during the regular season, and the Frozen Faceoff was a virtually guaranteed chance to see at least one game a year. With it on campus, especially at The Ralph, I fear it'll be nearly impossible for me to get tickets in the future. Plus the cost of getting up to GF. Like I said, I totally understand the upsides to it, but selfishly, the switch disappoints me. I miss the Final Five...
forksandspoons
$80 a ticket for games that typically don't mean much for the majority of teams in attendance is a little steep

Barry Alvarez was very aggressive in pursuing the formation of the B1G hockey conference, that's how I remember it.
Big Green
20 minutes ago, jdub27 said: Damn him for growing the sport of college hockey!! My thoughts exactly. The members of the Big 10 could have pushed for a change in the Bylaws to not form a Big 10 hockey conference. They saw the chance to generate more money and no one did anything to change it. I guess I can't blame them.

That was the domino that caused the other ones to fall. You need 6 teams to form a conference for a sport. Penn State was team #6. Without Penn State, it couldn't have happened, at least not back in 2013. Cute little post, though. PS: I am all for expanding the sport as much as we can. Alvarez didn't want UW playing (and losing) to some of the newer (and smaller) schools that joined the WCHA later on. So he and Jim Delaney put the whole B1G hockey conference into motion...and just like that, 50 years of conference rivalries were gone. Barry and Bucky were too highfalutin to be in a conference with ... < gasp > ... Mankato. When PSU arrived the B1G was destined and Barry's escape route. Roll it forward and where did Bucky go to get a head hockey coach. Oh the sweet irony.

Alvarez brought Wisconsin football from the dead to prominence, so when he became AD, they gave him the keys to the family car and a gas card. He was great for the football program but never gave a shyt about hockey. 2

It's $80 for the two-game semifinal, and another $80 for the championship game.
