Q has been absolutely amazing at embracing that role. No trickery needed ... everyone knows what we are doing, but we do it anyway. Would be nice to have a situational replacement for when he is gone. I was thinking about this recently too, if we try to find a big skill player who can take over the QB sneak after Q is gone. I mean if it's 4th and 1 or less anywhere on the field I don't even get nervous when Q comes in and we got for it. I think SDSU on the goal line is the only one who stopped him. Such a huge luxury to be like 95 percent on 3rd or 4th and short and we really need it. Quote

Some other throws looked like he was able to flick it pretty good without really stepping into it. Quote

Hopefully his jump forward this year is where his trajectory is headed, as 9 touchdowns and 11 interceptions the previous year are not in Bubba's game manager mode. Quote
Siouxperman8 Posted October 31 Posted October 31 Watched Maple Grove vs Minnetonka a few weeks ago. Unfortunately UND RB commit Chuck Langama was out with ankle injury. Strib says he's back for their game tomorrow vs EP. Interested to see what he does. Quote
MoSiouxFan Posted October 31 Posted October 31 Reading T. Miller's article, it sounds like the new QB recruit is a really good kid. And I think that he's going to be a dude for us in a year or two. 1 Quote

Either you trust the staff (coordinators, position coaches) feels they are putting the players that give the team the best chance to win or you don't. Personally I'd prefer they ignore pedigree, recruiting rankings, where players are from and scholarship status and instead focus on who is actually performing and executing the best in practice and during games. 2 1 Quote

Hoping we saw last week what won the plucky QB the job and he can build on that. He was more than good vs the penguins. 7 Quote

GoodGood Posted November 1 Posted November 1 He made some nice throws. Youngstowns given up 63 and 73 points in games this year. He does that against the South Dakota schools and we might be cooking! Quote
Wilbur Posted November 1 Posted November 1 Excited about the new QB recruit. With a bunch of FBS schools hoping he'd play defense there is always the possibility if the QB thing doesn't work out he could go on the defensive side of the ball. Or he'd just transfer out with the way things work in college sports nowadays. Quote

After what happened to Trey this year there is zero chance UND will land Jeff. Trey was promised the #1 spot for a few years and then realized it was all smoke by the coaches during Spring ball. FWIW...St John's QB is a great QB and in his senior year in a pass happy offense. He has been on a few visits there. I would guess that is where Trey would end up. (Not sure if this should have been under former players or not) Quote

The QB situation was short sighted. My inside player sources said Trey was one of the best teammates and hardest workers. He's taller and has a bigger arm than Romfo, much more throwing experience in HS, and from a pipeline of sorts. My view.......we blew it how we handled it. I don't think Jett will consider UND, nor will any player from Moorhead in the near future be looking too far north. But, will Jett be as good as his HS numbers.......probably not. I think we all know what Moorhead will do the next 2 years in the passing game. Big game this evening vrs Alex. 1 Quote

iramurphy Posted November 1 Posted November 1 53 minutes ago, Sioux27 said: Bubba made most of these promises and a few other coaches as well. This comes from Kevin F. Could be although, I’d be surprised if a HS coach of Kevin’s intelligence and experience would say a player is promised a starting position. Most players are smart enough to see that as a big red flag and Kevin would have seen that as a red flag. What coaches tend to tell kids is that they believe they have the ability to take over the starting job in whatever time frame as long as they continue to improve, do what is required in practice, weight room, classroom etc. That’s the same general speech athletes hear when they want more playing time etc. Having said that, I hope non of our coaches say anything stupid like that. I remember Danny commenting about how well Romfo performed in practice and how they “need to figure out a way to get him on the field”. I strongly felt that if the competition between Feeney, Romfo and Kaminski was that close, it should have been Feeney’s job to lose. He was the only one with much playing time and had done well when given the chance. I also think (no evidence) that there was a lack of communication in how this was handled. One of the biggest mistakes teams can make is for players who put in all of the work year after year feel they are no longer an integral part of the program. That ship unfortunately, has sailed. I understand that an athlete with Trey’s history of success isn’t going to finish his career as a backup. He loves the game and wants to play. 3 Quote
