As long as we have seasons and droughts like this one - yes. Are you happy with how things are going with our program?

But you were saying similar things when Hakstol was coach and we were making it to the Frozen Four every year.  This is karma coming to get you, and the rest of us are caught up in something meant for you.  Thanks!

A great game followed by a long slide.  It showed our potential and what possibly could have been. We expected a team like this for the season and a top 5 team nationally.

A big part of it was also Motzko playing and trusting his young guys full of potential in big roles and allowing them to make mistakes then and learn/grow from it. We took advantage of some of those mistakes and converted on PPs. Also we basically stole that game as Minnesota seemed to be playing at a different speed and the shots finished like 40-20.

Wow - that big brain of yours has uncovered the root of our problems.

I think that game is a lot more "evenly played" if it wasn't on the big sheet.
This team, especially in the 1st half with it's many defensive lapses and poor goaltending (although DeRidder did play great the UMN weekend), had those weaknesses exposed even more on the Olympic sheet.  Case in point...both the UMN and SCSU weekends.  Although we did get that OT winner against UMN.

What Brad Berry does with:

- goaltending
- defense

this off-season will play a huge factor in determining who the University of North Dakota men's ice hockey head coach is on September 15, 2024.

I've just said the quiet part out loud.

Quote

Gaber, a second-team all-National Collegiate Hockey Conference pick, scored 20 goals as a junior. He became the first UND player to hit the 20-goal mark since Shane Gersich in 2016-17.

As a senior, he'll have a shot at joining even more select company.

Since Ralph Engelstad Arena opened in 2001, only three UND players have hit the 20-goal mark multiple times (a byproduct of scoring dropping in college hockey in recent decades).

Jason Gregoire is the last to do it. He scored 20 as a sophomore in 2009-10 and 25 as a junior in 2010-11.

Prior to that, Ryan Duncan did it as a sophomore (31) and a senior (20), while Zach Parise did it as a freshman (26) and a sophomore (23).

There will be no shortage of players to get him the puck.

NCHC rookie of the year Jackson Blake, incoming freshman Jayden Perron and Flyers draft pick Owen McLaughlin are all skilled players who prefer to pass first.

"Knowing the group we're going to have was definitely very appealing," Gaber said. "Obviously, with the amount of firepower we have, that's something that's very exciting."

As I pretend to be College Hockey Amatuer General Manager I seem to have come across what could be an issue.

If Frisch and Moore are the only returners on d that gives us 1 righty and 1 lefty.

In looking through our future incoming D I count 1 righty and 7 lefties.

I think we may need 2-3 right handers, and would have to hit the portal to do so. i know it isn't a big deal to roster 5 and 3 but not sure we would want 6 and 2?

Correct. Of what we still have or believe we'll have plus pipeline, only Frisch and Komzak are RH D.

We have been as unbalanced as 6/2 in the past.

LOL. What did you do from 2000 to 2016?

This comment is why @Irish, @SIOUXELEVENS and others feel it necessary to point out the very serious problems this program is facing right now. There are people who seem oblivious to these inconvenient truths and want only positive things posted. Well, it doesn't take long for a program to decay and it can be difficult to rebuild it (Wisconsin is a current example). I would rather avoid that if possible.

It is entirely possible we will bounce back next season and earn a high seed in the NCAA tournament. And I think the whole COVID extra year has been detrimental to this program and the further away we get from that, the better. Next season will be important for this coaching staff and the program as a whole.

They've been pointed out ad nauseum, man. We all get it. It's just be absolutely slaughtered into the ground over and over and it's exhausting

Based on importance, looking to see if we get word this week on.

A level importance:

  • Transfer Goalie: Either Haider or Persson
  • Frisch Decision
  • Kleven Decision (Each day that passes, does give me hope that he stays)

B level

  • Caulfied decision

Other: Clearly getting a high-end defenseman is a top priority, not sure what's in there now is enticing. I know we're split on this, but would be nice if Albrecht signed as well, or if one other of the "depth" guys hit the portal. Talent / Talent / Talent.

Just looking at stats Persson is kind of helter  skelter , thinking Haider or Pavicich , if Kleven stays wow that’s a super bonus. Forwards if Albrecht not back we need one more , maybe a face off specialist ? Just my opinion.

As far as D, one of the guys in the portal that ON PAPER would seem to hit all the boxes the coaches usually look for is Tanner Palocsik from Dartmouth. Captain, right shot, pretty good offensive stats, NCAA ice time leader. But I’m not sure about getting a kid from the Ivy League to come to UND. I would imagine once regionals are complete there will be more to choose from.
