Berry's previous contract, a five-year deal, was set to run out in June 2023. Berry will make a base salary of $450,204 beginning next season and will receive 3 percent raises each year for the remainder of his contract. He also has numerous incentives in his contract — winning the Penrose Cup (8 percent of base salary), hosting playoff games (2 percent), winning NCAA tournament games and team academic benchmarks (6 percent) to name a few — that could push the value higher. Getting rid of Helly has no bearing on how our goalie situation is next year unless we don't find a portal goal better than he is. I'm very confident we'll find a portal goalie better than he is. Same concept, losing Johnson doesn't mean our defense will be worse, better, or the same unless we get a recruit or portal guy that is the same player. That seems the logical path here. If we're able to retain 18, 4, 24, etc...that'd be welcome for next season.
