MDtoGF Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 Good news regarding Alabama Huntsville, the school and alums have worked to get 17 mill over 10 years to help secure institutional funding. The next step is getting a conference. Read this for some player thoughts on the issue. https://seamoresports.com/2020/11/13/uah-hockey-17-million-reasons-to-be-happy-players-take-notice/ 1 Quote
brianvf Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 UAA cancels their season as well, bringing the total to 8 schools done for the year: https://www.collegehockeynews.com/news/2020/11/13_Alaska-Anchorage-Latest-to.php Quote Alaska-Anchorage had already announced that its hockey program was going to be cut following this upcoming season. There is a fund-raising drive under way, but it hasn't been fruitful so far. Assuming the program is not resurrected, this would mark the end of UAA's hockey history. Quote
The Sicatoka Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 I’d comment on Notre Dame’s offense but I guess we all have to wait to tonight to see it. Quote

In all seriousness, that Michigan team is loaded with high end talent...their big three stud freshmen Powers/Johnson/Beniers combined for 9 points in their collegiate debuts. If anything, the shorter season will benefit them, as it seems that high end freshmen sometimes get worn down throughout the college season (see past young loaded teams like UW last season and BU a couple years ago). It'd be a good matchup between UND's experienced team and them if they happen to meet in the NCAA's (assuming the season gets that far, of course). Quote

scpa0305 Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 Owen Power looks to be a cheat code, haven’t seen a frosh that dominant since Eichel. Quote
brianvf Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 RPI shutting their season down isn't a surprise...earlier it was mentioned that they hadn't even been practicing. We'll see what happens with the rest of the teams...hopefully the remaining teams can stay healthy and be allowed to complete the season. Quote
Frozen4sioux Posted November 17, 2020 Posted November 17, 2020 It seems inevitable that the momentum is trending much like it did last spring. With more and more dropping off. Its a slower burn but it just feels... like more will fall every day. With a pairwise mathematically impossible it will be interesting to see how they will sead a tourney, if there is one. And on top of that, at what point of teams cancelling does it lose credibility as a season or a competable championship? Quote

Really all we need to do is to keep our Pod healthy because history shows the NCHC was going to win the title anyway, so maybe the other teams figure why have a season anyway. 2 Quote
AlphaMikeFoxtrot Posted November 17, 2020 Posted November 17, 2020 Union called the season. It's doesn't feel as inevitable as spring cancelation, but the season's outlook is not good. Quote

I feel that Union and RPI were both foregone conclusions, after that CHN article that said RPI hadn't even practiced yet and Union only had one game scheduled against LIU. Hopefully the rest of the teams can have some sort of season...crossing fingers. Quote
Frozen4sioux Posted November 17, 2020 Posted November 17, 2020 I thinkif the NCHC bubble holds, theres at least a chance but I cant see the NCAA running a championship for 2/3 of the conferences. Quote
AlphaMikeFoxtrot Posted November 17, 2020 Posted November 17, 2020 CC has a positive test less than two weeks before the pod... Quote

I don't get the "pause" mentality. Ostensibly, the ONLY reason you do ongoing, surveillance testing is to have real-time information at a very micro level. If there is one positive test, then you can remove that person (who can then re-test and confirm, a la Nick Saban), but the surveillance testing continues so the team activities should continue. You would "pause" only if you had so many positives that the ability of the team to prepare, travel and compete was compromised. What am I missing? Why bother testing with precision if your response is entirely lacking in precision? Quote

I can’t see why they wouldn’t hold the tournament in some shape/form. If anything I doubt it’ll be a 16-team tournament, back to 12? Single location for regionals/championship? Im really curious what the selection process will be. Will the polls actually matter or is it all going to be decided in a smoke-filled backroom? Quote
