Adidas deal in the works?

There's no question this is true, but it's not a deal-breaker. Having an apparel deal is key to programs like football and to limit it because the men's basketball team thinks they have that kind of authority is inconsiderate and laughable.

Adidas makes more than one model or 'kind' of shoe, and again, it comes back to the success of Adidas-sponsored programs. As far as basketball, Louisville, Kansas, Michigan, Wisconsin, and UCLA all wear Adidas shoes and do just fine. Not to mention, many NBA players wear them too. Yes, it may require some getting use to for those who wear Nike regularly, but they aren't going to suddenly cause injury or deter performance.

I would agree with different types of shoes that are made by Adidas and may work better than others for certain people.  One would think that exceptions could be made based on need of the athlete if it indeed  was warranted.  In other words a doctor/trainer sign off on it.  Not sure if that type of exception even exists or doctor's/trainers would do something like that.  I know shoes can be modified with orthotics as well.

Since we aren't privy to all of the details of de Rouen's injury history or the wording of the deal with Adidas, all we can do is speculate or make assumptions.  As has been stated, other schools sign these deals, including deals with Adidas, so not sure what the hold up is on our case.  Hopefully it's not truly a case of the basketball team refusing to sign off.

Probably one of the dumbest things I have heard in a long time.  Does De Rouen have any personal examples of how he has been injured in Adidas shoes?  Or is there any studies out there that show adidas shoes cause more injuires than Nike or any other brand?  The guy should learn how to not turn the ball over and comit so many dumb fouls instead of worrinying about the shoes he wears!!

I don't know the nature of his injury but.....

2011-12 (Freshman; New Mexico State): Played in six games for the Aggies in 2011-12 before sustaining a season-ending injury

2013-14 (Junior; New Mexico State): Did not see any game action.

I know in 2013-14 he was initially suspended but remember hearing that he had an injury that didn't allow him to return to action.

06/23/2014

LAS CRUCES - Terrel de Rouen hoped to return to New Mexico State, but ultimately determined it would be more beneficial to leave his hometown to finish his college basketball career.

The former Oñate and Aggies guard said Monday he had signed to play at the University of North Dakota after a three-year stay at NMSU that included two significant injuries and a suspension prior to the 2013-14 season.

After a season-ending knee injury in his freshman season of 2011-12, de Rouen also underwent micro-fracture foot surgery in the weeks following the Aggies' NCAA Tournament season of 2012-13. On Monday, de Rouen said he was cleared to begin running two months ago.

For the record I have no idea why Jones and staff are not happy with the Addidas program and am not saying they have an inferior product.....it does appear that Terrel has had less than good luck with Addidas shoes though?

I stand corrected.  This may be the dumbest thing I have heard!!  Are you implying that his injury was based on the shoes he was wearing?  Come on!!!  I get it that shoes give you different type of support, but for him to imply that a certain type of shoe had a direct impact on his injuries is a pretty lazy excuse.

And just posted this due to timing(received this email today from Promo Marketing) and being in the industry(corporate and athletic apparel).

Nope. Just gave some background as to why Terrel may feel that way.

By the way, would it surprise you that some high school athletes will sometimes make a decision on what school they attend based at least partially on the schools apparel and shoe deal. The Harrison twins for Kentucky had their decision come down to Kentucky and Maryland....2 schools not exactly on even recruiting ground but because they were Under Armour devotees Maryland almost wrestled them away.....well that and Maryland probably doesn't have the same type of, umm, "funds" that Kentucky has for basketball. ???

At UND's level, yes it would surprise the hell out of me.  At Kentucky, not at all.

Years ago I had a knee injury directly related to the shoes I was wearing for running.  I bought them based on cushioning rather than support, and every time I ran it ended up placing extra strain on my knees.  My physical therapist made it sound like it was fairly commonplace to have injuries based on shoes.

I haven't worn certain brands since.  Granted, I wasn't playing basketball, but it isn't super far-fetched in my mind.

I also don't think that something like that should prevent a deal with a particular brand, though, if alternatives can be arranged for players with similar concerns.

SiouxFBInsider has mentioned that grey helmets may be in the works. Personally, I think grey helmets and grey pants would look good with either green or white jerseys. Nevertheless, I still think the all black look is something UND should use at least once a year.

Excited that an Adidas deal including apparel and gear is finally going to come to fruition. Will be a good boost for UND as a DI program.

Doesn't Adidas do the uniforms for Eastern Michigan? Take a look at their scheme with grey in it for a glimpse of what UND would look like...

Eastern Michigan's grey uniforms aren't bad, but I personally think the all black look (including black alternate helmet) like what Eastern Washington uses looks better as an alternate.

Key point in all this, IMO, is that the new alternate in 2016 needs to include an alternate helmet color (black, white, or grey).

Gray is the trendy color, but I think it's a fad that'll pass pretty quickly. Although some of the designs using gray are pretty cool, I'm not in favor of it. Besides, the novelty of it has already started to fade - now it's just another "me too" copycat trend that's gone from edgy to mainstream to over-saturation. IMHO, of course.

I wonder if UND's would actually be similar to the gray helmets they had back in the 70's, possibly with the updated interlocking ND but someone else can probably has more insight on it than I do.

When I picked up my helmet he told me that was the idea. With a stripe down the middle and their number on one side...throwback style.

Anyone know when we might get a look at these new uniforms?

Would be nice to see a preview sooner or later. To my knowledge, home and away uniforms for this season and an alternate uniform coming in 2016. The bigger part of this deal is the equipment and gear; that is, if the athletic department signed that deal with Adidas. Having an agreement with Adidas for gear/apparel/equipment will make the football program more marketable and appealing to recruits.
