I just have to say that we are fortunate that Bubba and his staff are able to bring such quality players to UND when the UND Athletic Department makes it so obvious that there is hockey at #1 and everything else. To me if felt like we were lucky that UND found an intern to turn the lights on at the Alerus because that is about as much effort as they put into this game. Now I realize that some of the lack of atmosphere will be blamed on spring ball and Covid, but my gosh: No printed player roster - could they not have printed a thousand double sided sheets of paper with the player roster. Okay so they want us to go online to get it. Guess what the online roster was not updated for this game - the only one available was from over a month ago. No band - yes I know it's spring ball and probably tough to get a student band together - but they couldn't get a couple dozen students for a pep band? Never got to a hockey game - was there a pep band for those home games? School song - Maybe they played a recorded version before the game and I didn't notice, but they definitely did not play it when the team came out at halftime nor at the end of the game. No inflated helmet - I will give them the benefit of the doubt that this might be an NCAA thing for playoffs but it could also be laziness. No mascot - again I'm sure they will blame it on the spring season, but they spent $50,000 on a costume and they can't find someone to wear it for an NCAA playoff game? No player visuals for the team introduction: this is indefensible, during the pre-game player introductions they sat on a UND logo, no player pictures or names on the big screen - this just screams lazy to me. No senior recognition - I know there are several variables here, not sure who is coming back, usually done at the last regular season game, but come on - this will be the last time some of our seniors play on their home field - no one gave any thought to thanking them on the big screen? I realize players and their parents read here so I want them to know that there are many fans of the football team, but the athletic department really needs to step up their game for sports other than hockey - this is not something new, it has been pointed out for decades. One big thing to remember is this was not a UND football game. UND may have played in it, but its important to keep in mind that this was an NCAA championship event. This means that the NCAA owns everything top to bottom for the game. From publishing rights (meaning no printed roster cards) to all the content on the videoboard content (reason for no player visuals for intros) to broadcast rights (ESPN3 only, baby!), the NCAA essentially micromanages everything that host institutions are allowed to do. They do that because for all intents and purposes, this is supposed to be just like a "neutral site" game. 5 Quote

Correct at the beginning of the game they played them both - perhaps NCAA restricts the playing of the school song, but go watch the highlights of SU VS EW - between the PA announcer screaming "That's another ...." (can't force myself to type it all), and the cannons going off that definitely did not sound like a neutral game site. Quote

Yes and the Alerus PA guy was urging us to make some noise on third downs and there were fireworks for us too. Bottom line as we’ve been saying your gripes are for NCAA directed things not UND Athletics. 4 Quote

Crutches and a boot signal high ankle sprain to me. Even if it is just a sprain and he didn’t tear the ligament his ankle is going to be the size of a melon. If he did tear the ligament he will need to be on crutches and boot for 3 months. May have also broke his leg bone too but that heals faster than the ligament. I just hope he can get a few months of physical therapy and be able to play this fall at some time. Quote

siouxfan512 Posted April 25, 2021 Posted April 25, 2021 anyone else think Mitchell’s garbage time TD was reminiscent of weah’s TD from a few years ago? The kid has speed and talent, he will do really well here. I expect a much heavier dose next season. 2 Quote

I don’t believe one can diagnose “high ankle sprain” without getting the mechanism of injury from the injured athlete and doing an exam. You may be right but not sure that we can conclude anything yet. My “not exactly” comment was based on the inaccurate conclusion that crutches and a boot mean “high ankle sprain “. It seems you thought there was a difference between a sprain and torn ligaments. A sprain is stretched or torn ligaments. The severity is based on which ligament or ligaments and how badly torn. Watching it live my gut said either broken fibula or high ankle sprain. Just based on the way the player ended and how he was tackled. Obviously we'll see next week. Quote

And when James Madison comes out with 10 guys within 5 yards of LOS(like NDSU) and our defense can't manhandle the other team, what do we do then? Lose 34-13? Once MSU adjusted the offense was almost non-existent for the last 3 qtrs. 2 Quote

It’s why the offense other than Otis long run struggled in Fargo. If a defense is skilled enough to go man to man and our defense can’t control the game we will be in trouble. Don’t get me wrong, Tommy is a winner and a great game manager. This edition of the Hawks is close to a natty. Multi dimensional QB could be the difference. Quote
