This! This is the WHOLE point. The good die-hard members of your fan base are aware, yet won’t do anything. So you have to ask yourself, whose the issue. The people doing it, or the people who won’t stop it.

Outside of being a huge TROLL, what is your whole point of bringing this topic up? Again, no one is defending those crappy fans.

Who’s indignant? Self assess, be better. Just be better is all I’m saving, you showed great impressive actually. Represent better while there.

Next time I will make sure to yell at those fans in Vegas from my couch in Grand Forks...really great advice. Your opinion on what our fanbase is or isn't holds zero weight with anyone here. I promise you no one will change anything they do by you posting on here, especially any idiots that may or may not have done the things you said.  Next time try a soft opening, for example  a classic 'Hi' rather than WHY CAN'T YOU BE LIKE VEGAS FANS?? Alas, you've gotten the attention I imagined you desired so I'm signing off on this convo.

In 2012, I had the “pleasure” of sitting behind a Gopher fan at Mariucci who spent the entire game standing up, turning around, and yelling in my face whenever the Gophers scored as well as at the end of the game (a 5-1 drubbing of UND). I hadn’t said sh*t the entire game, I didn’t yell, “SIOUX!” at the end of the anthem, nothing. The guy even got lectured by my girlfriend at the time and others who were decked out in Gopher gear because he was embarrassing himself.

I knew, sitting in my girlfriend’s mother’s seats deep in the middle of Gopher season ticket holders in the lower bowl, center ice, to just clap when they announced the UND lineup and cheer when we scored our lone goal. Does this mean EVERY Gopher fan is an obnoxious ass like the guy who kept antagonizing me? No. In fact, our seats for the game the next night were in a different section and we sat next to two very nice, welcoming Gopher fans who were awesome.

I’m a season ticket holder for CC and have observed bad behavior by Tigers fans as well so it’s not fair to characterize one fan base or the other as “bad.” The difference is, with UND, we travel in large numbers so we tend to all get pigeonholed as a group whenever an opposing fan experiences problems with one or a handful of a-Hole UND fans. You rarely hear Gopher or other fan bases stereotype a fan base like CC’s as good, bad or otherwise because we just don’t travel in huge numbers.

Point being, I think it’s unfair to lump all of us UND fans as bad sports when, in fact, it’s the opposite.

Totally agree.  One of the best and most refreshing things about the game on Saturday was that there were no adds playing on the big screen or adds playing during stoppages of play.  (Or at least I didn't notice any).  The one thing that has yet to be mentioned is the music that was played during the stoppages!!  Great songs with great bass beats to get fans clapping.  Also some great remixes!!  The music was one of the more underrated aspects of the game that I thought was great!!

I actually commented on the music selection while watching the broadcast.  It's kind of an art to get the crowd engaged and The Ralph doesn't do it very well.  As was mentioned, before the players are even halfway to the bench on the stoppage, an ad comes on and grinds the excitement to a halt.  It's one of the reasons that it's always a heart breaker when the Sioux lose a game like they did in Fargo.  You go from a fantastic environment, back to the quiet home ice next yr.

So your answer for throwing ice at a kid is “everyone does it”? Be better. Just be better.

No one should be doing that.

You're exactly right.  It's classless and terrible sportsmanship for anyone to do it.  And it's not justification to say that Gopher fans do it or fill-in-the-blank fans do it, so it's ok for us to do it.  On the whole, our fanbase is better than that, by far.  Unfortunately, there are sometimes a few that can overshadow the many fans that, though rabid, don't go over the line.

You best go preach on gpl as well. And tell them those that would do 3000 damage on a car because the owner was a sioux fan need to be told by fellow gopher fans to knock if  off.

They need to be arrested and then banned from Gopher home games. Plain and simple

The game was at the X -- not sure 3M at Mariucci has jurisdiction over that or not (sarcasm).  The culprits, I'm sure, know who they are to this day.  An absolute junker of a car parked next to my truck and when the driver and passengers exited the vehicle, it was 4 on 1.  I said nothing and walked on, listening to "let's kick his a**," "Sioux f*&$ing suck," and other color commentary as I did so.  It dawned on me that I should probably go back and move my truck, something that to this day, I regret not doing.  My truck was keyed from front panel to back panel and when they backed out of their parking space, it would appear that my back quarter panel was intentionally rammed in order to do some more damage.  The car in question was probably worth $500.

I didn't mention the two times I was challenged to "meet me outside" following a Gopher win at the X or the time when my then-11 year old son was poked in the chest by an adult Gopher fan who proceeded to inform him that "the Sioux f*^$ing suck!"  Before I could even bolt after this bozo, I was grabbed by the arm by one of St Paul's finest and told to, "let it go...you know how they get when they lose."  I actually chuckled and said, "you're, right, thank you."

Now, to contrast that, I will forever be grateful to the Gopher fan who sold me her 2001 regional tickets at face value outside of Mariucci Arena.  When I told her that other scalpers were gouging Sioux fans all over, she said she just wanted some fans to go enjoy their team play and to get her money back.  I told her I appreciated her not taking advantage of me (given that there were 4,000 empty seats inside the arena, there was no reason to be asking for 200% of face value) and that I would always remember her kindness when the topic of bad Gopher fans came up.  Believe me, I had to grit my teeth upon examining my truck after that Sioux win at the X some years later, but you cannot let the actions of a few idiots speak for the greater whole.

God forbid you want to have some class.

Just using basic math, UND sends 7,000 fans to a hockey game, there's a chance one or two of these folks is going to get into it with some snowflake/hypersensitve Gopher fan.

Add alcohol, means the chances increase. With some fans, it’s like throwing gas on an open fire, but no one wants to be lectured by some poindexter when they've been drinking. I am sure that none of the Gopher fans acted like pompous jerks either. No one fan base owns the monopoly on horrible fans. Each fan base has their share of morons.

One thing nice about being in the NCHC is we don’t to listen to endless lectures from Gopher fans 2-5 times a season. You know, you only win because of the 25-year-old Canadians. The tired old UND is a bunch of goons. Yada, yada, yada.

Finally, 8 > 5.

Would you like to go preach to your own fan base to police their own as well? Or is this one-way with you.

Ummm, pretty sure I said nothing of the sort.
I didn't throw the ice at the kid, but thanks, I'll try to be better.  :D

How about this?  Next time that UND or UW plays a game at Mariucci, wear a jersey for the opposing team to the game.
Then, when you get spit on, or comments about wanting to fight, or yelled at, or your car gets keyed....preach to those Gopher fans about being better.

It's not survivor, we can't vote people out of the fanbase.  Take care of yourself, that's all we can really do.  If you say something/do something to another fan you are only increasing the chances of escalating the situation.  If you saw such terrible behavior why didn't YOU do anything about it?

I wanted to pop in to say: what a weekend! I'm still feeling it today lol!

Fellow Colorado fan here, great weekend indeed! Walking the strip and casinos I would never go longer than a few minutes without seeing that awesome Kelly green. Game felt like a playoff game too. Hope they have another game in Vegas in a few years.

I’m researching different juice cleanses while waiting to board my flight home.

Jamba Juice in the airport (in the C gates section) really helped me yesterday. I had a green smoothie. Still not enough as I am still feeling a little greasy today.

Yeah, it was a great weekend! I am happy to be home though!

Sounds like the next destination game will be in Nashville...which will be awesome!

Jamba Juice in the vegas airport helps me 100% of the time after vegas trips. They could charge $30 for the shake and I wouldn't even blink.
