The funny thing is, their relative lack of success probably wouldn't be held against them as much if they wouldn't act like they were a national power or trot out the Olympians excuse every time. If you had all that supposed talent, including two of the best players in the world, then what gives?

I highly doubt UND got $2 million dollars of real, measurable exposure out of the Olympics, let alone the $8 million that would be needed to justify a once in 4 years event. There aren't exactly a ton of prospective students watching the women's games for Finland, Norway, Sweden, etc, which are the teams all but two of UND's Olympians are playing for.

Let's go for gold again. Let's bring back women's hockey. - Let's not. Unless of course as the former editor and publisher of the Herald, you happen to have a significant chunk of the $60 million endowment needed just lying around and are willing to contribute.

 

Congrats to the twins. They finally won their Olympic gold and it's a great achievement of which they and others should be incredibly proud of. However continuing to tie that to UND bringing back WIH is nonsensical at this point. Would their results have been any different had they stayed at Minnesota for their final 3 years instead of coming to UND? They would still be the first Grand Forks natives to win gold medals. However they aren't the first (or last) former UND student athlete to win a gold medal.
