In reference to Brad, this is a prime example of someone who should have two twitter accounts. One for his personal opinions and one for work.

Playing a little devils advocate, one could argue he only has a personal account and maybe likes it that way? His handle is his last name afterall. Siouxsports'ers complained about jayson h using his undsid twitter for a lot of nonwork stuff...well now here we complain about a personal twitter for too much work related stuff?

Tom Miller's article was fantastic and he basically summed up my feelings. It's tough what happened to those three programs as peoples lives were affected. At the end of the day, this will be the turning point into what will make athletics at UND stronger than ever. The way it happened could have been handled better, but Kennedy stepped up like I never thought a University President at UND would. Taking emotion out of it, he made a decision that will benefit UND for years and years to come. Between him and Schafer they cut a bloated athletic department and got the number of sponsored sports down to a number that makes sense.

We now sit at 17 (16 depending on Golf), are going to move to conferences that fit from a logistics standpoint, where UND will save another 1/2 million a year. We will finally be running a lean athletics department, where they can fund every team at a level that will be competitive. I couldn't be more excited for the future of UND athletics.

Plenty of room for big raises for big time performances i.e. Hockey, football and basketball

Good bye swimming and diving

wish women's hockey would get the dam boot

a friend of mine lives next to a staff of swimming and diving

only sport I know of as of now

Thinking back to a post gfhockey made yesterday -that a neighbor of a S & D coach had said that sport was being cut makes me think that

1. gfhockey's info was good

and

2. At least the coaches knew before today' press conference. If they did know, there was the opportunity for them to tell their players, if they felt it was appropriate

so, if Idalski knew, like the S&D coach did, was he really out of town "recruiting"?

Football is on the clock.  The projected savings today will be overtaken by the increased costs of athletics probably within 5 years.   Hopefully, attendance rises and is sustained above D2 levels.

In the future a decision may have to be made whether to retain men's hockey or football.

Football isn't going anywhere. If our attendance reaches women's hockey level (800-1000) then cut it.

Uh, no.

Maybe so Cratter. I am just calling out his one sided bull$%!# and some people can't handle it. On the other hand Tom Miller's article was fantastic. It had those pesky little facts in it.

i never went to any of the games but we are a hockey school

Those semantics are horseshit. That labeling and status needs to be adjusted.

It takes away from UND's other championship-level programs, including the ones that have relatively the most national following.

Most importantly, it gives people the incredibly false idea that UND and the State of North Dakota should sponsor hockey even if it loses millions and is played in an empty arena. Obviously not true with men's hockey but couldn't be more the case with women's hockey.

Some key details:

Quote

The elimination of the three programs adds up to roughly $3 million according to numbers obtained by the Herald in an open record request -- $1.9 from women’s hockey and just over $900,000 from the swimming and diving programs.

Some of that money will be reallocated into scholarships for other programs.

UND will move from the Big Sky Conference to the Summit League in the fall of 2018. The Summit League requires at least seven sports be funded at 85 percent of NCAA scholarship limits.

UND is currently at that mark in men’s basketball, women’s basketball, volleyball, women’s soccer. It is within two scholarships of reaching that point in women’s golf, softball and women’s track and field.

So the WIH scholarships will go toward women's golf, softball, and track and field.

Brad has still not addressed why they were cut and why it makes sense for UND.  He only keeps re-tweeting current players reactions and obviously taking the side of the Women's team.

Faison will be on 790 KFGO at 9:30.

KFGO.com online.

Glad BF mentioned the numbers again.  Did anyone else get the impression that Heitkamp had no clue that WH played in the Ralph?  He kept asking what UND was going to do with that "beautiful" WH facility.

Schlossman over the past couple years has turned into a clown. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, which I respect, but what he did yesterday was flat out embarrassing. As a reporter, you should lay out all of the facts and let people decide. You can absolutely have your own opinion, but get the facts out to the people. That wasn't the case yesterday, he found everything negative he could and spewed it to all his followers (The Reusse retweet was awful). He did his best to make UND look as bad as possible, while fueling the fire acting like he couldn't comprehend what happened (Olympians!!!). You can be mad, angry, but be professional and let people know this is why it happened. You don't agree with it for reasons A, B and C, but they did it because of D, E and F.

Hit. Nail. On. The. Head.

In my opinion, Tom Miller completely obliterated Brad yesterday in terms of being a reporter.

This is what a real reporter looks like. Very refreshing to see.

Case and point. This is what pure emotion looks like.

Hey Brad, how about you mention that these "families" costed the university well over $2,000,000 per year?

If you try to call him out on Twitter he comes back with lines straight from the CNN playbook.

Isn't the ripping family apart a direct quote from Faison in the article?
