thought that tailgating was essentially a great experience for most?  some of the videos ofthe web show it being a madhouse (even with midgets?)

It's fine, it could be better - thought there were many on here that are constantly saying if you are happy with what we have you are settling.

Who here has some extra time available?  UND is hiring for a part time, temporary, marketing position.  One of the job duties will be marketing for the football tailgate... would be a fun part time job... https://campus.und.edu/human-resources/careers/job-openings.html

All starts with vision and expectations. If there’s great vision and expectations, then comes down to effort. It’s really not that complicated; hopefully they can get somebody into the position that has great vision/expectations as well as is willing put in the work.

Never understood why there isn't more bars or restaurants on 42nd . All the hotels over there plus the Alerus. Same with the Ralph

There should have been a mini downtown built around the Ralph with condos, apartments, bars, restaurants, rooftop patios, etc. All roads pointing toward the epicenter that is the Ralph. Would’ve been really cool on game days or on a summer evening with a concert in there.

It's "Natural Latte", ... and I'm more of a Grain Belt guy. ;)

Haha. Not dropping $8 on a Natty Light or whatever it costs. More than okay with their beer selectch. Could use a window or two, though.

I have been saying it for years.  Put massive windows in above the cat walk similar to how Lucas Oil Stadium looks with the roof closed.

With the north/south field configuration, Doing this wouldn't create any crazy sun issues like A T&T Stadium.  Still don't know how they let that happen!!

Windows to the north instead would be better.

I agree with this - more restaurants on 42nd next to hotel strip by Alerus would be helpful.

Next best step is to ask GF sports bars/restaurants - like Buffalo Wild Wings - to set up tents in Alerus Center parking lot for football tailgating. If you can’t get restaurants to open up full time on 42nd, then at least have a temporary presence for game day. A Buffalo Wild Wings tent with beer/wings and multiple TVs set up with college football games would make for a nice addition to tailgating atmosphere, etc.

Natural light.

Agree - would be costly considering construction costs in current market, but would absolutely sky rocket enjoyment/satisfaction factor in Alerus Center on game days.

South, leading from the restaurant (attached to the southern seating expansion) out to the patio that overlooks the tailgating lot :D.  The restaurant will have gambling for the benefit of UND Athletics.  Windows like that would look great at the best new sports bar in grand forks.     This restaurant idea would be a hit though.  Place to be for NFL games, away hockey/football, other watch parties, kentucky derbey, and get some food in there, combined with the other destinations the mayor wants to build over there, place could be a hit.  Could also bring in a ton of beer money for concerts.  Would make the Alerus Center a much more appealing location to host other events as well.  Hell, maybe work with Sally Smith and BWW on this in conjunction with a new naming rights deal for the stadium when it comes available..  In all seriousness, if no fancy expansion, I think the south wall would be better for the simple fact that it overlooks the tailgate lot and it would look better from the highway.

rd+d - sports bars

I'm not sure anything in that idea would actually fall under the direction of the athletic director.

Alerus Center is a city owned property.
The athletic department isn't in the bar/restaurant business.
They definitely wouldn't be negotiating the naming rights deal.

The city of GF and the park district are actively looking at the land on the south side of alerus for their new multi use indoor facility.  If this happens, you would expect restaurants and additional hotels to come along in this new entertainment corridor

I really don't see the Alerus spending millions to add windows to the facility that are only going to be beneficial to the football team 5 and at the most 9 tiems a year.  Every other event does not benefit from natural light.  Especially concerts in the summer.

Idaho and Northern Iowa managed to add some natural light to their facilities, and basically had the same excuse not to. There's always going to be a facility war in the MVFC, adapt or die.
