We need to get back to "Fighting Sioux" hockey - not whatever you call the crap we saw this season - continued no look and crappy passes especially in the D zone, the lack of physicality, the patented "third period freeze", and the inability to put together a full 60 minutes of hockey - not to mention crapping the bed against lesser opponents. If Dane is the guy I hope he can do it although it doesn't seem like he had much influence this year. And Berry was shocked and amazed when he let go. It was brutal watching out hockey team this year. 2 4 Quote

The Sicatoka Posted Thursday at 05:24 PM Posted Thursday at 05:24 PM First time I see a UND D standing flatfooted with the puck in the defensive zone I'm done. I saw 10 years of that under Berry. (OK, nine; 2016 the D captured and immediately transitioned.) 1 Quote
78 und grad Posted Thursday at 05:34 PM Posted Thursday at 05:34 PM We need positive energy in this discussion. Son of a sailor, i doubt th majority of people think dane jackson is th solution. Do we really think: +und would pretend to do an exhaustive search for the best coach? +Then down the road, we find und didnt want to consider many other candidates? +we find out it was all just a sham Und athletics would never recover from this. We need new blood!!!! Go sioux!! 1 Quote

AJS Posted Thursday at 05:39 PM Posted Thursday at 05:39 PM Doesn't make sense to me that Jackson is a lock at this point, unless there were no other worthy candidates. Even so, who would be interviewed? Nobody? Only Jackson? The next three days just a giant waste of everyone's time? Logic says they still go elsewhere. Edit: Another reason I'm so skeptical is Jackson was really the wire-to-wire favorite? Rumors started as early as Monday that he was the guy. Who started it, Jackson? Every logical reason would say you don't know with the Assistant to the coach who was fired, but he had this locked up right away? Not buying it. 4 Quote

Give a 4 year deal where the 4th year is basically an option year. He’s been here for 19 years so he should already know what has to be done. If it’s a new coach not from the staff, 4 or 5 year deal. A longer deal is good optics for future commits that this is our guy. The safeguard is a low buy-out so if it doesn’t work out then that doesn’t become a barrier to making a change. 2 Quote

SiouxSports being a talking point over there by a fan base that talks about firing their coaches more than here (Minnesota) and others including ours. On how we are all unreasonable about the coaching change. Still find it odd how there are fans of UND over there that bring up Sandy and how he was recently but fail to realize he would have been fired after 5 season here. Or how he did he do with less than he would have had here. Well, let's look at other schools: Yale, Union, Providence, UMass, Quinnipiac, and Mankato all don't have what UND has yet they find a way to be in the discussion each year. Two things that keep coming up are the 2020 season and the 5 OT game. How UND was going to win a National Title and how unfair the 2021 Fargo Regional Final was unfair. We have no idea if UND would have won the game against Sacred Heart (going by the PWR they would be 16th). Due to Loveland being the closest regional and Denver hosting UND probably would have gotten them in the regional final (all the other regionals were in the east and 3 west teams in the top 4). With Denver being the highest 2 seed, they could have beat UND if the season wasn't cancelled. The 5 OT game against Duluth, it took two @MafiaMan mG<2-minute special goals to tie that game. BC who didn't have to play a first-round game lost in their Regional Final, so the whole unfair argument is dumb. Enough with my off-topic soapbox rant about these two things but the ifs and buts on those two seasons get so old. How can we be unreasonable with 1 ncaa win in 8-9 years? It’s not acceptable bc it’s not the norm. I’d equate that span with Iowa Football. Winning seasons but 8-4, 9-3 trips to the outback bowl. Yippee. Difference is that IS THE NORM or ceiling for that program. UNDs situation currently shouldn’t be the norm bc it wasn’t with previous coaches with history of titles and ncaa successes. Non Penrose with a run to the FF is better than Penrose and one and done. Penrose is not a big deal in the big picture. Ask DU. 1 4 Quote
