I do think DJ needs to be on a short leash. He's been here 19 years. If there is little to no improvement in the performance of the team two years from now, then it will be back to the drawing board.

Yes, don't lock him up for a long period. Give him a 2 year deal.

I'm hearing rumors that my dad is a finalist for the job.  Must be the awesome job he does coaching Red Army broomball that got him noticed by UND administration.

Source?

Yep, Montgomery turned it around and Carle continued the success.

Not only continued the success, but ramped it up.  Plus 2 gold medals at the WJC with Team USA. unbelievable run he is having.

Bill Chaves on Sunday:

"Ladies & gentlemen and members of the press ...

After an exhaustive nationwide search that involved many applicants with esteemed backgrounds, to which I thank you all greatly for showing interest in this highly-regarded position, it gives the University of North Dakota and me great honor to announce the next head hockey coach of this fine institution. Let's all give Mr. Dane Jackson a warm round of applause as he leads this program back to national prominence. Mr. Jackson, the podium is yours... "

First time I see a UND D standing flatfooted with the puck in the defensive zone I'm done.

I saw 10 years of that under Berry. (OK, nine; 2016 the D captured and immediately transitioned.)

We need positive energy in this discussion. Son of a sailor, i doubt th majority of people think dane jackson is th solution. Do we really think:
+und would pretend to do an exhaustive search for the best coach?
+Then down the road, we find und didnt want to consider many other candidates?
+we find out it was all just a sham Und athletics would never recover from this. We need new blood!!!!  Go sioux!!

Doesn't make sense to me that Jackson is a lock at this point, unless there were no other worthy candidates. Even so, who would be interviewed? Nobody? Only Jackson? The next three days just a giant waste of everyone's time? Logic says they still go elsewhere.

Edit: Another reason I'm so skeptical is Jackson was really the wire-to-wire favorite? Rumors started as early as Monday that he was the guy. Who started it, Jackson? Every logical reason would say you don't know with the Assistant to the coach who was fired, but he had this locked up right away? Not buying it.

It's worth considering that recruits look at how long a coach will be around when making decisions.  Giving him only a 2 year deal tells recruits it's uncertain if this guy is going to be around half-way through their career.  That's not helpful...

Give a 4 year deal where the 4th year is basically an option year. He’s been here for 19 years so he should already know what has to be done. If it’s a new coach not from the staff, 4 or 5 year deal.

Buy-out is the biggest piece to the puzzle. A longer deal is good optics for future commits that this is our guy. The safeguard is a low buy-out so if it doesn’t work out then that doesn’t become a barrier to making a change.
