I had the fortune to go to game 6 of the Kelly Cup Finals a couple of years ago and the atmosphere in that arena was eclectic. Yah, it was a huge game for the Eagles which added to the excitement but the arena itself had the feel of a college arena. The place seats like 5 or 6,000 thereabouts but with low ceilings and great sight lines. I commented to my wife what a great venue this would be for a college team. You will have fun there for the regionals, especially if UND makes it there.

Isn't that where Jake Marto has been playing

There were questions, after the last two seasons, about how good this years team would be. The preseason experts had us 5th in the NCHC and not in the top 16 nationally. When you compare the line up this year to last, it is easy to see that this years team is better, but the surprise is that the level of improvement is so great. I think we all would agree that last years team was a little better than it’s record indicates. UND was playing well at the end of last season and if it had made it in to the NCAA’s would have been THE team no one wanted to play. Defensively 7 of 8 returned and you would expect that each returning player would improve from one year to another. I feel that Frisch is a positive for the team as the only new defensemen who replaced Shaw. With a healthy Bast, or with 8 healthy defensemen, it will be interesting to see who will dress. Offensively again all returnees improved from last year as you would expect. But the replacements have been much better than the people they have replaced, in my opinion. Blaisdell better than JJ, Caufield better than Hoff, Michaud better than Jones (although Jones is the most missed offensive player from last year) and Pinto has helped the team more than Gardner ever did. Gardner was a great face off man, but he was not consistent doing anything else for the team. Getting a healthy Scheel back has obviously been positive. In my opinion, the team’s success is not as surprising as it would seem. Hope they continue to excel! Go Sioux!

Does Thome get a game on the 28th? I hope so and also that Albrecht would see some time.

I'm not hating on michaud but I'd take Jones over michaud.

Both were good transfer pick ups who showed up and played the right way from day one. I cringe to think how bad the last two years would have been without Jones.

Would guess Thome would get a game against Alabama Huntsville as well to get him game time for insurance.

I think picking one over the other to be a difficult decision. Each contribute something to their team. Making all the other comparisons from last years to this years team, they improved in every other situation (Frisch for Shaw, Blaisdell for Hoff, Caufield for JJ, Pinto for Gardner) and stayed close to even after losing Jones with the Michaud pickup. Michaud said he chose UND because he wanted to help bring #9, he had the choice to go to any team in the country. I’m guessing he did his research and saw something special!

Here’s how I see things: Getting Michaud lessened the blow of losing Jones.

Because like you said, this team the previous 2  years would have been pretty brutal (even worse than they were) without Nick around.

Ageee it’s super early for braketology, but my take right now, but here’s what I’ve got:

Albany

Cornell vs Notre Dame

Ohio State vs UMass

Loveland

DU vs Providence

BC vs ASU

Worcester

UND vs Army

Clarkson vs Lowell

Allentown

Mankato vs UMD

Penn State vs Bowling Green

You keep bracket integrity except for swapping Lowell and ASU, which prevents a first round Hockey East matchup while at same time boosts attendance in Worcester.  Bracket integrity > highest seed nearest home, when it’s a long plane ride no matter what...and you’re swapping the lower seeds.

Isn't this a little like talking to the pitcher when he has a no hitter going late?

No, not even close!  : )it’s saying who would make the playoffs if the season ended today...on an off-day...

From your lips to God's ear. I agree Allentown would be the region of death. With Loveland being a close second.

If you think BC is not playing in Worcester then I have a bridge in Oakdale to sell you.

A

tinfoil hat eh?  Since the institution and widespread understanding of the pairwise and methodology for seeding, its gotten a lot harder to grease a team to the Frozen Four.
