I've had my fair share of conversations with him, he seems extremely happy where he is, and does not seem to be a big fan of living in ND (despite his wife being from Fargo), and is adamant about the quality of ND HS football (thinks it sucks). It would seem he wants push UST into the MVFC someday. I think UND purusuing him would be a dead-end, considering he walks on water at UST and gets paid quite well.

That's what I was suspecting.

Am I out of line here in suggesting that we nab a NDSU (gasp!) coordinator or assistant and tell them to do in Grand Forks what they did in Fargo?  I hate NDSU FB and their success as much as anyone on here (someone mentioned that some UND hockey fans are Bison fans for other sports - I especially hate that approach), but you have to admit that they know how to get it done.

Getting a coordinator from NDSU should be seriously considered. As Dustin said… they know how to get it done.

Prior? Yes.
Right now? Juries out a bit I think.

Guarantee UND starts recruiting better once Memorial Village and Pollard phase two are complete.

I sure hope so. If you can’t see a jump in recruiting after all those improvements, then what the hell?

(for the record, I think it will help)

Did Schleusner learn enough under Stig before going to be OC at Idaho?
Will Landry learn enough as OC at UST?
Will Danny have the killer instinct missing since Lennon?

Or when the day comes do you just go with a whole new regime.

At some point all this “inbreeding” needs to be closely examined by UND athletics. It’s not like UND football has been consistently doing anything great since going DI, and the head coaches have been “UND guys” in Mussman and Schweigert during that time …

UND needs to take a hard long look at guys outside the program, mainly DII head coaches with great records of success.

I agree to an extent but idk if a guys qualified and just so happened to go to UND or coach at UND in the past, that does not mean we should eliminate them.

I wish basketball would have gone more with the UND guy when they could have hired Craig Smith instead of Brian Jones.

For years, many talented coaches have been interested in our openings (in all non-hockey sports) UNTIL they learned what we were able to pay them.  Former UND players and coaches have been willing return to GF for less $!!

The funny thing is, in most other industries in GF, the pay for the most part is above market value in order to get good out-of-state employees to move to Grand Forks. From a UND athletics standpoint, hockey does that, but in all other non-hockey sports, it’s a*s backwards.

Football and basketball tries to recruit and retain coaching talent with pennies when they should at least be using nickels and dimes …

Fully agree but it won’t change until UND figures out how to raise more $ from FB alums (and FB fans) and the Champions Club realizes they can raise much more by simply setting some goals and using better common sense in their communication and marketing!!

Has the Champions club even announced how much money they raised last year?

Just a speculative guess, but I'd say they're holding onto that until a Homecoming luncheon or until they can announce start of Phase II.

Our luck we will hire one coordinator who will have a just barely above .500 record with little playoff success and the other coordinator will find success as a Power 5 FBS school.  Nah, no way that would ever happen.

Absolutely, it’s run by a bunch of delinquents.

I know a lot of people in North Dakota with $ to spend but the Champions Club and Alumni Foundation puts up their noses to them. They spend so much time trying to get the big bucks (i.e., the big time donation) from select donors, that they fail to realize there are several moderate donations all over the place that they could be capitalizing on.

I think UND athletics fundraising, beyond the hockey community, is god awful. I mean, how could you say it’s not? UND’s non-hockey sports budget is below average… not good enough to yield banners on a consistent basis, that’s for sure.

Hate to say it, but NDSU Team Makers has blown UND out of the water the past decade.

This will prove that I am an old fart but I remember when the Big Green Club annually raised twice as much as the Team Makers!

Team Makers nets 700k a year from charitable gambling.  UND doesn't even try.

I think the best bet for UND would be to get new blood entirely.

Landry and Schleusner have been gone long enough that they would bring a fresh approach and be potentially viable candidates in the future, IMO.

Good luck trying to get into a spot in Grand Forks.

But I agree, that's a big difference.
