Circus just started.

The circus started around the time the name was retired. Sadly at this point we are simply watching more and more clowns climb out of the car.

Tough situation for the current student athletes and staff, but no question that long term this is the best move for the university.

Exactly. I hope the press release spells out the costs of what they are cutting and why, it is really tough to dispute the reasoning when the numbers are on the table.

Obviously the usual suspects are already out crying sexism and Title IX but they have no clue on the actual numbers and won't bother checking into them. Apparently a sport that has a net cost that is over twice as much per any other student athlete on campus is worth it just because. I guess they would have been fine with cutting 2-3x more sports and student-athlete opportunities because somehow that is fair.

Does cutting scholarships actually save money? The school isn't actually out anything if someone is attending on scholarship are they? The classes are still being held, the professors are still being paid. Most of these athletes would not be attending UND but for their sport. It's not like they're turning away tuition paying students because all the kenesiology classes are filled with athletes.

Why would the Herald have an article out there now if they haven't been told?  That would be bad on the Herald wouldn't it?

now that multiple sources have reported on it they are free to do it stating its from sources and not the university. If they were first to report it before athletes knew and no one else had reported it yet, then it would be bad.

Can the WH players STFU?  They have a meeting at 2:45 with Faison and are tweeting at 2:38 that they haven't been told.  They are lying just the Womens National Team did the whole time.

Personally, I think the players on a team getting cut have the right to say whatever they damn well please. Is there a rule that says they have to like the decision? What is Faison going to do, suspend them for a few games? :silly:

Don't bitch about not being told when you have a meeting in 10 minutes where you will find out all about it.

Its interesting how these things go down... There are a group of people who make the decision.  Once the decision is made, do you schedule a press conference and announce it to everyone at the same time and risk it being leaked by someone involved in the process (whether internally or externally)?  Or do you tell select people ahead of time and not be forthcoming to the rest until the press conference?  In the latter scenario, you can prevent Brad from tweeting that UND has a recruit on a visit right now because the coach wouldn't schedule something like that if he knew the program would be cut.  But all of those signs will just cause the rumor mill to go nuts and there is a way high likelihood of leaks.  If you schedule everything to come out at a press conference and let everyone go about business as usual until that time, people complain about the optics.  Its a lose lose situation.

It be interesting to learn when the decision was made, was there a few options on the board, and they just made decision within last 24 hours? Press Conference should've been this morning, problem is athletes typically have classes in the morning, so they wait till they can meet, but also have to inform the conference and NCAA of the decision.
