Outside of the first run it appeared they had a lot of early success running A gap power. We adjusted by dropping d lineman down to cover the guards (which didn’t work) and they countered with running a bit wider. They likely could have continued with A gap power in the second half and had the same success. Quote
Sioux94 Posted March 25, 2021 Posted March 25, 2021 One good thing about the games prior to NDSU, the scoring drives we gave up were quick. Which really IF the team is going to score, it's better that it's quick instead of a 11 play 8 minute drive wearing us out. If we only have one NG this Saturday, man this will be a gut check on defense. Canady with a potentially significant injury too the way it sounds. Ugh. Quote

I don't want to speculate on injuries, especially when the rumors I've heard aren't completely reliable, but I've heard he might not be able to go this fall. Quote

UNDColorado Posted April 5, 2021 Posted April 5, 2021 That does suck. Makes sense now considering I just saw that we offered a grad transfer safety from Houston Baptist. Quote

Siouxperfan7 Posted April 19, 2021 Posted April 19, 2021 Otis Weah, Tommy Schuster, And Bubba Schweigert all nominated for the Walter Payton Award (Player of the year), Jerry Rice Award (Freshman player of the year) and the Eddie Robinson Award (FCS Coach of the year) respectively. https://theanalyst.com/na/2021/04/fcs-college-football-walter-payton-award-finalists/ https://theanalyst.com/na/2021/04/fcs-college-football-jerry-rice-award-finalists/ https://theanalyst.com/na/2021/04/fcs-college-football-eddie-robinson-award-coach-finalists/ 3 Quote

Sioux94 Posted April 20, 2021 Posted April 20, 2021 Surprised Watson from NDSU isn't on that list, although I don't know his stats. Wouldn't surprise me if Watson enters the portal. But NDSU has been busier playing the last couple weeks so maybe his mind hasn't wandered to that yet and won't do it before the May deadline. Have only seen a little of Watson but he looks pretty talented. Quote

Have only seen a little of Watson but he looks pretty talented. Tall and fast, but tends to have some brick hands (except of course when he's pushing off a defensive back right before halftime). Not sure he's in an offense that knows how to utilize him. They way they try to get him the ball in space doesn't seem to work. 1 Quote

If he was in the < ahem > correct shade of green, would he be slot and used more jet sweep action? Quote

Honestly, no, I don't think so. They use him in a fair amount of jet sweep and from what I have seen, it is pretty hit or miss. Maybe in the slot, but to your point, I do think that DF has shown a little more creativity in creating mismatches and getting the ball to playmakers in space than his counterpart in Fargo. That being said, they have usually just relied on running over people and it has been pretty successful. But also more to my point on him being in an offense that doesn't quite know how to properly utilize him. Quote
Norhsidepride Posted April 21, 2021 Posted April 21, 2021 I came across this link on several player's social media pages from Small School Prospect Scouting. I apologize, there was no easy way to do this. There is obviously a glaring omission of Weah on the Walter Payton award when we know others have him there. Something interesting: All the categories had players spread out from across the country except Defensive Back - Their winner was from Austin Peay, but all 4 runner ups were MVFC guys. Scrutinize, ponder, complain and comment at will Thought it was worth sharing. 1 1 Quote
