I noticed there's a "rough-legged hawk." So let's just combine the two nicknames and be the Rough Hawks. I suppose some tee-ball team in South Dakota has the trademark already

You could end up with something more like the Wyoming logo than the Cedar Rapids logo. 

Be careful.  UW brought their wrath down upon Breckenridge MN high school for using their Steamboat logo.

My wife and I agree that the new name should be just North Dakota. We both said we could live with Fighting Hawks. The bigger questions is, who gave President Kelley the authority to make all the rules. Who is actually running this college. And why isn't there someone in North Dakota smart enough to run either of the two large colleges in our state. We always end up with someone from anywhere but North Dakota being hired. The damage will be done and he will be gone. I will give Kelley one thing over Faison. Kelley always wore something with North Dakota  on it.

I think if we had some sort of Logo to put behind the final 2 choices if it comes to that would definitely help in people making a decision. Doubt that will happen though.

This^^^^^^^^ should have happened when it was down to about a dozen. Probably wouldn't be stuck with choosing from the pile that is left if some concepts had been laid out.

I had a friend ask me last night if North Dakota had picked a new nickname.  I gave him the rundown and told him the 5 names under consideration.  When I mentioned Sundogs, he said "What is that"  When I explained it to him he shook his head.  The only that he liked was Rough Riders, which he thought was pretty cool and had a lot of possibilities.  He then told me that there was a historical marker downtown (Pensacola) with Rough Riders on it.  I had a meeting downtown today anyway, so I took a picture.

If I'm not mistaken, he would have been Lt. Col. at the time.  Colonel Wood would have been still been in command. I could be off though.

245 votes on this thread. Pretty interested to see how accurate this is in comparison to the actual vote. Are 245 votes representative enough of the number of people that will actually be voting, and how much will that alter the outcome.

I think the general concesnsus is that SunDogs is out. NoDaks seems to have picked up some momentum recently though. Though I would hope they would go Fighting NoDaks.

The more I think about these 5, the more I come to the conclusion that they all suck.  It seems like the mentality is.....just settle on something for the sake of getting it over with.  I thought our University was better than that, but I've been proven wrong.  Undoubtably, poor leadership got us to this point.  Can't wait until he is gone!

Kelley appointed a committee its was their job (not Kelley's) to pick and choose what names are narrowed down. Just because your precious North Dakota was dismissed by the committee doesn't mean it was Kelley's fault. The board threw the name out, it was Kelley who gave a little thought of reinstating it which was a mistake as no other name that was gone got reinstated. 5 names, pick one and move on.

Not sure what you and others don't seem to get.  We will always be known as North Dakota.  Always have, always will.  If you aren't a hige fan of the nickname selected, then jsut cheer, purchase merchandise, refer to the teams as, etc, etc, etc as North Dakota.  I think the reasons for not having a nickname have been discussed at length in many threads.  There will be a new nickname  Everyone else has accepted that.  You wanted to be known as "North Dakota".  Wll guess what, you won!!  We already have that name!!  adopting a new nickname does not take away anything from the Fighting Sioux name or from North Dakota.
