You need to re-energize your basketball fan base. An NCAA hoops tournament appearance would do wonders.

Agreed.  Lots of potential to grow mens Bball.

Many of those that want us in the Summit also want us in the MVFC.  Is there a Flagship university in the Summit?  How many Summit schools have a Medical and a Law School? UND should stay in the Big Sky with more like-minded schools.

Summit: (flagship, medical and law) USD, (research/land grant) NDSU, SDSU, (medical and law) IUPUI, (law) DU

Big Sky Olympic: (flagship, medical and law) UND, Idaho, UM (research/land grant) MSU

The remaining schools in the Summit and BSC are R3 directionals, or in the case of Weber and Idaho State, glorified community colleges

Oh, c'mon. Don't you think that games against USD, SDSU, NDSU,  Denver, and perhaps UNO would be more interesting to the average UND fan than any of the Big Sky schools?

With or without Weber State, do you really think that the average UND fan would rather play those schools than the ones I listed? Be honest.

It's the University of North Dakota, not the University of the Red River Valley. This fan is from western NoDak and would rather see UND play the four Montana and Idaho schools any day over a single one you listed.

Every AD at Nebraska, A&M, TCU, Mizzou, WVU, and CU lied though their teeth or honestly didn't know before their moves, as their Prez's either didn't tell them or waited until the last minute.  Part of the job of AD is issuing plausible denials, but still be prepared for a move up.  If he anything about how conference moves work, Mazzolini should have asked Engstrom not Haslam.

I'd like to drill down on this one. I think Football gets a lot of coverage and it's fair, too. The Herald has two writers covering the team on any given day. Let's not forget the Sioux Football insiders that are also covering the team.

Don't forgot about Teder during spring and fall practices.

Yep, so, they're getting great coverage.

There is no med school at Montana, but there was a plan that has been tabled for MSU to build a med school.

Been there, done that. Time for some new challenges in the Big Sky.

An interesting stat that I'll just throw out here for everyone: UND leads the all-time-series in FOOOTBALL, MEN'S BASKETBALL, and WOMEN'S BASKETBALL against all of the Big Dakota Three of NDSU, SDSU and USD.

FOOTBALL

  • UND leads NDSU 62-45-3
  • UND leads SDSU 46-34-5
  • UND leads USD 61-29-5

MEN'S BASKETBALL

  • UND leads NDSU: 159-132
  • UND leads SDSU: 106-82
  • UND leads USD: 99-88

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

  • UND leads NDSU: 44-33
  • UND leads SDSU: 41-21
  • UND leads USD: 49-24

Denver is a hockey rivalry. We had a slight rivalry with UNO for a few seasons in football. They no longer sponsor football.

Looks like Wichita St won't announce a football team until next summer, and an FCS team probably won't play until likely two seasons later.  It's already too late to recruit players for a full class, so that might be just as well.  But Wichita St is mainly interested still in FBS, although they need to play a few years in FCS.  UTRGV will face the same time line.

Too late to recruit players for a full class?????  First they have to decide IF they are even going to field a team.

The Big Three hates it when you bring up facts.

I seriously don't get why they don't pull an NCHC and create a power FCS conference with the best Summit and Big Sky schools.  Have an East and West division.  Basketball would probably be better than the MVC in the long run.  Especially if UNI was forced to join if we broke apart the MVFC to create the new league.

keep Denver and Omaha for Olympic sports.  No Northern Colorado, and Denver might be happy enough to not move to a western basketball conference, given the chance.

But all we heard about prior to 2011 is all those DII football titles, plus don't forget NDSU's record vs UND since 1960ish. Your statement should read "certain past performances is a guarantee for future results if it favors NDSU".

Hmm, then wouldn't it be in UND's best interest to stop reminding NDSU of the (now distant) past?

Wait until SV reads Schlossman's Canisius preview to see who is in town this weekend ... ;)

Are you referring to the Engelstad's being in town for the games?

Yep.  They are in town to announce a 500 million dollar donation to UND for a new on campus football stadium and a push to move towards FBS.  Pretty convenient that the 15 year anniversary celebration of the Ralph happened to be the same weekend!!  ;)
