FSSD Posted May 14, 2023 Share Posted May 14, 2023 Before the tSL goes looking for a school they need to decide what type of conference they want to be: 1) Status quo with Olympic sports 2) Support Hockey? 3) Support Football? Based on those answers. You start your search for the right school. Not sure I understand how you’re counting population here. You’ve got Chicago at 2.6m and Minneapolis/St. Paul at 4m. It looks like you are using the metro area for Minneapolis/St. Paul but just the city of Chicago? Pretty incredible how often the Dakota schools have flirted with the Montanas and Idaho. The guy has a rundown on the history of every single conference. It is interesting to see the changes in the Summit League over the last 20 years. Today the best ways to describe the Summit League: National Research Universities (R1 or R2) - R&D Exp $25 million to $165 million Flagship Universities (Rural) / Urban (Public/Private) Academic Spending over $200 million to $500 million US News National Rank (100 to 300) Med School, Law School, or Land Grant These are the schools that the tSL should be considering as future members.
