So was this a coup d'etat?  It was quite obvious something was amiss when Brad's very well written letter neither thanked nor endorsed a man he worked with for many years.  Perhaps we will never know the sordid details, and I can live without knowing.

So we throw our support behind Dane and see what he can bring in terms of change.  Hopefully I am looking forward to Friday and Saturday nights again with a couple cold ones and Sioux Hockey on TV by the time October rolls around...

Morning after reaction. I’m excited. Some current / former players really are sticking their necks out that Dane is the right guy. I love that. Everything will be heightened next year. A lot of pressure. Imo, we’ll be able to tell next year if this was the right hire.

The real coaching search was the friends we made along the way!

🤣 I will say it brought back lot of names that used to be very active on this site but tapered off over the last few years.

I'd like to know if Chavez researched past and present players to get an idea of what was actually going on.

This feels like the easy way out and I'll need to see consistent results, like three successful and successive seasons, to change my mind.

the boys will play harder for the newly appointed Buddy...  for at least the first year.

Hope so.  I guess it’s time to ride with Dane Jackson, the cool uncle.

While Jackson's extensive tenure with UND brings continuity, several factors could pose challenges to his success:

  1. Internal Promotion Amidst Program Changes: Transitioning from assistant to head coach within the same program can be complex, especially following the departure of a long-standing head coach. Jackson's close association with the previous coaching regime might make it difficult to implement significant changes or address existing issues that contributed to prior shortcomings.

  2. Limited Head Coaching Experience: Jackson's head coaching experience is relatively limited, with his most notable stint being an interim role with the Adirondack Frostbite in the United Hockey League. The jump to leading a high-profile NCAA Division I program like UND presents a substantial increase in responsibility and pressure.

  3. Fan and Community Expectations: UND hockey has a passionate fanbase with high expectations. Some community members have expressed skepticism about promoting from within rather than seeking external candidates who might bring fresh perspectives. This sentiment is reflected in fan discussions, where concerns about the hiring process and the decision to promote Jackson have been voiced.

  4. Immediate Performance Pressures: The timing of Jackson's appointment, coming just before the opening of the transfer portal, adds immediate pressure to retain current players and attract new talent. His ability to navigate this critical period effectively will be crucial in maintaining the team's competitiveness.

Wow. Chavez really went hard on the interview trail. So vanilla of a choice. Not knocking Dane, but if build a house and it's declared condemned, why would you use the #2 in charge of the same company to rebuild you another house, and expect something different.

As much as we want to pin this all on Chaves, and believe me he is an easy target, he most certainly leaned on Erik Martinson for this as well. I like Marty, I have known him for a long time, but he was just as instrumental in the decision making as Chaves. So good or bad he deserve credit or criticism too.

so he's content....maybe worse.

Not always an issue. There are examples of long time assistants moving up and being successful. hopefully this is another one.

Tom Izzo at Mich St. was bb assistant 1983-1995.  Has been HC at same school since with tremendous success.
