yzerman19 Posted Sunday at 01:11 PM Posted Sunday at 01:11 PM So was this a coup d'etat? It was quite obvious something was amiss when Brad's very well written letter neither thanked nor endorsed a man he worked with for many years. Perhaps we will never know the sordid details, and I can live without knowing. So we throw our support behind Dane and see what he can bring in terms of change. Hopefully I am looking forward to Friday and Saturday nights again with a couple cold ones and Sioux Hockey on TV by the time October rolls around... 1 Quote
Popular Post SKondrashkin Posted Sunday at 01:12 PM Popular Post Posted Sunday at 01:12 PM Yea, if the reported Berry/Jax falling-out is true, I like the hire. Again, if true, I get the sense it revolved around Berry's lack of accountability, intensity, etc. Jax's intensity is off the charts. We don't need to reinvent the wheel here. Tweak some things, hire some quality young assistants (recruiting) and it's gonna be all good. 8 1 Quote

gfhockey Posted Sunday at 01:22 PM Posted Sunday at 01:22 PM So the team based together and bubs fired wow Quote
AJS Posted Sunday at 01:25 PM Posted Sunday at 01:25 PM Morning after reaction. I’m excited. Some current / former players really are sticking their necks out that Dane is the right guy. I love that. Everything will be heightened next year. A lot of pressure. Imo, we’ll be able to tell next year if this was the right hire. 3 1 Quote

OopsSioux Posted Sunday at 01:45 PM Posted Sunday at 01:45 PM I'd like to know if Chavez researched past and present players to get an idea of what was actually going on. This feels like the easy way out and I'll need to see consistent results, like three successful and successive seasons, to change my mind. 1 Quote

HockeyHawk Posted Sunday at 01:51 PM Posted Sunday at 01:51 PM So Chaves fires a coach just to hire the assistant? This is an embarrassment as least football brought in someone from the outside to generate some energy 3 Quote
datameisterq Posted Sunday at 01:56 PM Posted Sunday at 01:56 PM While Jackson's extensive tenure with UND brings continuity, several factors could pose challenges to his success: Internal Promotion Amidst Program Changes: Transitioning from assistant to head coach within the same program can be complex, especially following the departure of a long-standing head coach. Jackson's close association with the previous coaching regime might make it difficult to implement significant changes or address existing issues that contributed to prior shortcomings. Limited Head Coaching Experience: Jackson's head coaching experience is relatively limited, with his most notable stint being an interim role with the Adirondack Frostbite in the United Hockey League. The jump to leading a high-profile NCAA Division I program like UND presents a substantial increase in responsibility and pressure. Fan and Community Expectations: UND hockey has a passionate fanbase with high expectations. Some community members have expressed skepticism about promoting from within rather than seeking external candidates who might bring fresh perspectives. This sentiment is reflected in fan discussions, where concerns about the hiring process and the decision to promote Jackson have been voiced. Immediate Performance Pressures: The timing of Jackson's appointment, coming just before the opening of the transfer portal, adds immediate pressure to retain current players and attract new talent. His ability to navigate this critical period effectively will be crucial in maintaining the team's competitiveness. Quote
90siouxfan Posted Sunday at 01:56 PM Posted Sunday at 01:56 PM Perhaps Brad fell on his sword to keep el capitan from the fallout of bad decisions, maybe without intending this much fallout for himself. 1 Quote
neoflex Posted Sunday at 02:06 PM Posted Sunday at 02:06 PM Wow. Chavez really went hard on the interview trail. So vanilla of a choice. Not knocking Dane, but if build a house and it's declared condemned, why would you use the #2 in charge of the same company to rebuild you another house, and expect something different. 2 1 Quote
gfhockey Posted Sunday at 02:16 PM Posted Sunday at 02:16 PM So you’re telling me the team named the coach whom most guys will only be 1-2 years. We will be stuck with another buyout if it’s bad culuture still so bubs made the culuture bad? I thought he always preached culuture 1 Quote

Popular Post Brucesky02 Posted Sunday at 02:21 PM Popular Post Posted Sunday at 02:21 PM As one of a select few people on here with experience being coached by Dane, I figured I should share my two cents. Now…I wasn’t exactly on the UND hockey team, per-se, but I did take the intro to ice hockey class from Hak and Dane would often come help. I clearly recall him telling me to crash the net from the wing looking for a rebound from an opposite side shot and that same week, I did exactly that in my (lowest tier) intramural game and scored. (My only goal of the season) Point being - he made me a better player. More importantly, I have only ever heard good things about him from guys who were actually on or around the team. I hope we get to see a new or mostly new coaching team under him and of course, success on the ice next year. I’m excited to see what he can do. 6 Quote

As much as we want to pin this all on Chaves, and believe me he is an easy target, he most certainly leaned on Erik Martinson for this as well. I like Marty, I have known him for a long time, but he was just as instrumental in the decision making as Chaves. So good or bad he deserve credit or criticism too. Quote

Popular Post geaux_sioux Posted Sunday at 02:50 PM Popular Post Posted Sunday at 02:50 PM This hire looks safe from the surface but in reality Chaves’ neck is really on the line here. Success needs to be immediate or this hire looks terrible given all the optics. Had he hired someone from outside the program I’d guess he would have a little more leeway. This could end up looking so lazy and stupid. 7 Quote
