The 2016 National Championship was Haks team and recruits. With the talent we had that year, we would have won with any coach in there! Hakstol's recruits are now about gone, and the talent has dried up. IMO its only gonna get worse! Berry's been riding on Hakstols shirt tale, but has now been exposed.

This is simply not true. I have seen teams in all sports at all levels that were loaded from top to bottom terribly underachieve. Phil Jackson doesn't get enough credit for managing all the egos on the Chicago Bulls when they won 6 titles in 8 years. Especially his management of Dennis Rodman.

And as people have pointed out, Berry doesn't have a lot of recruits that are solely his and his alone. My main concern is that the players aren't getting better from October to March and that is something that must change next year and beyond.

So what’s the next steps with the program? Does Berry meet with the AD to go over the season in review-what went right, what needs improvement-? Do the coaches hit the recruiting trail or has that ended with junior teams’s leagues drawing to a close?

Our team lacked an attack mentality on the puck. You could see it with other teams when they would get the puck. They would fly down the ice and try and make something happen. Too often I would see our guys coast slowly down the ice and chip it of the glass.

Any chance of bringing in a stud or two who is not on the list so far?  Heaven knows we could use a couple.

"Chip it off the glass" could describe our offense in 5 words.

Here's when players made their decisions last year.

Season Ended 03/24

  • Boeser - Signed 03/25
  • Jost - Signed 03/29
  • Poolman - Signed 03/30
  • Poganski / Gersich - Said they were returning 04/05

Last year everything happened pretty quickly, Schmaltz didn't sign until June 30th the previous year.

Hope they send the boys to a bonding camp. Don’t need any locker room issues next year

Is that really a thing?  Is it on the captain / seniors to police the team, settle squabbles.  Seems like Pogo had his hands full this season.

Schmaltz only signed late because tarveinen was traded by the hawks. Schmaltz was 100% coming back until that trade went down.

I'll be real interested to see how Kawaguchi improves next year.  He's a potential difference maker and he seemed to be coming around.

  • Top line of Jones, Guch, and Mismash
  • Second line of Garder, Adams, Smith
  • Third line of JJ, Hoff, Yon
  • Fourth line of ???

Smith is not a top 6 guy. JJ played on top line yesterday.

Kawaguchi (5-14-19) - Jones (15-15-30) - Mismash (9-13-22)

This line was very good down the stretch for UND, for having two first year players, those aren't terrible stat lines. This was the 2nd line last year and a pretty good one, could they be a legit #1 line with a year under their belts? If not, UND will have a better 2nd line than they had this year.

Start with that line and start filling in the pieces once we know who's staying and who's going.

so    Jones with Mismash and Guch

Gardner with JJ and Hoff   (I thought Hoff was a center but for the sake of killing off the next 6 months)

        Bowen with Smith and Yon

         ?
