His hand is being "forced" this time. Cut womens hockey and the requisite Title IX mens sports for compliance and be done with it. Schafer whiffed and now Kennedy has whiffed. 3rd time is a charm. Right now, there could be a lawsuit from the mens side of the equation for title IX. We are over the compliance requirements in the opposite direction. And how can Faison survive this without being held accountable by 3 different Presidents? Just want to state this again...

John W.
One obvious cut with close to 2 million dollar budget....now it better be about finances and not politics....OR Kennedy has 'no stones'!!!!
Kab
If Kennedy was the best hire in a nation wide search universities are in serious trouble this guy can't make a decision, no less stick with it will he put his finger in the air to see what way the politics blow again

nodak651
Mens/Womens swimming and diving has close to a million dollar budget. Wouldn't have to worry about title 9 and they could close the hyslop swimming pool. It would be funny if he didn't cut anything again (not really). jdub27
@Goon - Can you lay out why WIH shouldn't be cut instead of just being offended that people think it is the most logical cut. The reasons why it should definitely be considered have been laid out, I'm curious why you don't think it should be on the table. 5

This is ridiculous. Do it get it over with. Don't have another committee and hearing and make coaches and players beg. All credibility in Kennedy is out the window. My gosh. I am embarrassed. This is beyond unbelievable.
Popular Post crb1
I feel bad for the sports teams but this is also what us staff have to go through yet again. We lost lots of good people last go around and people were trying to be positive and do more with less only to be told we are going to be cut even deeper now. If we thought the last round was bad just wait until this round. I have never seen anything like it, they plan to buyout as many faculty and staff as they can and then let go a bunch of others. Drop programs, eliminate grad teaching positions. It is really not good, the buzz word is do much much more with less. Moral is at an all time low. Things were looking somewhat doable with Dalrympl's budget proposal but Burgrums is taking it even farther. I agree we should run a lean Univeristy but we already got there the last budget cuts. I know a lot of people that are seriously considering going elsewhere and moving away from the state. Is this what they want, a brain drain from the state? This is only for higher education. What about the others areas of the state they plan to cut.
SiouxFan100
Sounds like a pretty sorry state of affairs. I feel for the University employees and students that are affected by this. Does no good to drag it out.

Popular Post bincitysioux
Remind me again what the minimum number of sports are required for being in DI........... That's how many we should have, and women's hockey should not be one of them. Swimming & Diving should be high on the list too. These are both absurdly expensive sports that offer very little to nothing in return. If this ends only with a tennis and/or golf team getting axed, that'll be definitive proof that Kennedy doesn't have the stomach for the job and this university will be in for yet another long and agonizing presidential tenure. Let's make this thing really "lean" and be done with it.

UNDColorado
Somebody called this previously but I believe Kennedy used the committee as a pawn knowing they wouldn't make cuts. He took the pressure off of himself then so he has free reign now. People will call him a tyrant after he has the testicular fortitude to make cuts but it will fall on deaf ears because he gave the academics a chance to make something happen and they did nothing. Now we wait and see how he handles this.

The Sicatoka
What are the minimum sport sponsorship numbers (M/W) for Summit League membership?
zonadub
Think I remember reading m/w buckets plus 5 more each somewhere on this board
The Sicatoka
Trying to answer my own question, I found a DU blog that claims the Summit requires "men’s and women’s basketball plus five additional core sports". That sounds low. So, I looked at Wikipedia ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Summit_League ): - the lowest mens sports sponsor in the Summit is DU and IPFW at 5 each. NDSU is at 6. - the lowest womens sports sponsor in the Summit is DU at 6. IPFW, NDSU, and ORU are at 8 each. So DU has 11 in the Summit; IPFW has 13, and NDSU has 14. I know DU has M/W skiing and lacrosse (and they claim to have hockey ) to get to the DI minimum of 14. IPFW has MVB to get to 14. NDSU has 14 not counting FB and wrestling. Gothmog you are wrong again, the original post does not... Bison Dan and I were posting and his post above stated UND always following Bison. See the word always. I was making the point that we were a U 1st and Ag School followed with a school later, showing that they followed 1st and many times there after. That's the original post.
