The idea that this team will now take a dive and not get another chance at the "brass ring" is pure overreaction. Come on Vindy, I know you and you are smarter than that. The point Sicatoka was making is that Bubba's house isn't finished yet and yesterday was another painful reminder of that fact. Two steps forward; one step back. That is how programs evolve. Did NDSU's loss at EWU in 2010 ruin their future prospects? No, and neither will what happened yesterday ruin our future prospects. My point is play for now not the future. was this the best team in America? no, but things had lined up that an unlikely deep run was certainly possible. I'd like to think this progran has turned the corner, but I'd be lying if i said the lack of recruiting focus on QB doesnt concern me. Next year could be great, but what if Studsrud gets hurt. Heidlebaugh got almost no meaningful playing time so we are playing with fire there. Thats why this loss was so painful. we seemed to have a lot of mojo and the draw was favorable. But I'll be pulling for them next year just the same. 1 Quote

NCAA ran pretty much everything on the LED boards. Alerus just had announcer and music, i think. NCAA had a lot of their own pre-packaged video. Some other (no beer) rules as well. Quote

Popular Post SiouxVolley Posted December 5, 2016 Popular Post Posted December 5, 2016 Last I checked, the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers don't consistently win Super Bowls. Bad plays for us and lucky bounces happen for the other team. That's football. The program has been turned around and it's still getting better. It was a very disappointing loss, but no need to fill a psych ward here as some posters seem to think. 5 Quote
bincitysioux Posted December 5, 2016 Author Posted December 5, 2016 I understand the decision not to let them score at the end. Based on how this season went, the defense is far more likely to make a big play with a few seconds left than is the offense. If a final kickoff is forced, there is no way Richmond lets Santiago get his hands on it. The defense has won games for us already this season, they were rolling the dice that they could do it again, just didn't work out this time. 1 Quote

What more do they need to understand how important they are? $1000's of dollars were donated by fans like us to get them to the game. Do they need rides next year too? I thought the students were great and based off Richmond's players and coaches reactions after the win, both groups making a point to come back and talk smack to the student sections, I'd say the students had plenty of fun during the game. They sure did for the first time in many, many years. A win and having the season continue would have gone a long way toward sustaining that for the future. We gained a lot with that game but we would have made more strides if football had stayed in the news with a long playoff run. Just a missed opportunity in my opinion. My son and his friends are on board. I was talking about the students who are fringe fans. It has nothing to do with donated tickets or rides to the game. I donated tickets myself and hosted a bunch of students at our tailgate party and we all had a great time but most of them have been there all year. We did rope in 2 or 3 that hadn't been there for many games Quote

As to the reverse or end-around, no one knows what he or others in the press box saw on the field that led him to make that call (If indeed it was his call. Does your QB have authority to audible? Does the HC ever override the OC or make the call? IMO, without that knowledge, he shouldn't be second-guessed. If you recall, UR lost 6 yards on the first play of the game on the same type of play. Most all year we had thrown a long pass on 1st down to try to stretch the field. It was the wrong call that we made, but I understand the logic. Things don't always go as planned, even when called by experts who are making such decisions. As to the blocked punt, I am certain that the UR coaches saw an opening in your punt protection that made them go for the block, either in prior punt protection in this game or in the film they reviewed. We have not attempted to block a punt all season regardless of where the score and time stood. If there is an opening in punt protection, though it is probably discernible by the typical fan, it is probably something simple that can be easily fixed. Incidentally, while I am obviously glad that we won, I feel for your loss. I know it must be disappointing to you, especially in view of your lead in the third quarter. That said, as I posted in another thread on this board, I was very impressed with the class, talent and energy of your team and your program. The game could have gone either way. After your first drive for a TD in the third quarterI was ready to throw the TV out the window. You have a very bright future and you have many playoff victories ahead of you far more significant this one loss. I doubt that it will be long before you are competitive with NDSU who, like it or not, has been the class of FCS for the last five years. Good luck to you guys. You have the talent, coaching, and class to go far. A Tough loss for us Sioux fans but we lost fair and square. Congratulations to your team and fans and good luck next week 1 Quote

UND was in complete control. Up 24-7 and had just scored. Would have been able to possibly seal it with the a good drive. Time and flow of the game is key to this argument. A lot of people want to downplay the significance of that play. I cannot, and here is the clincher: before Richmond scored to make it 24-14, before the defensive lapses, before the punt block, name the exact moment when doubt first crept into your mind that UND could lose after going up 24-7 and basically having their way. I guarantee that it crept into the players' minds, too. I was numb for the next several moments...the big pass completion and ensuing TD are a blur, frankly, because I was still REACTING to and processing what I had seen but could not believe. The punt pressure defied - and still defies - reason. Interesting to see on here now that it was not called by the coaches; that is some measure of relief. I can forgive the kids. Avoid the foul, take the fair catch, run some clock, and eliminate that doubt? We're having a different conversation. 5 Quote

We needed to make a play before the game winning kick. Some of our fans need to realize this won't be the last time UND will be in the playoffs. This won't be the last chance especially with a veteran experienced team. 2 Quote
