What dream world does this dilutional guy live in?  1. UND can't legally transfer the trademark and 2. this would mean loss sales for UND.  For Kris to weight in is just dumb.

If Kris wants the name and logo back, cover the cost of changing the name back and any future legal matters with the NCAA.

Personally with all the losses the NCAA has taking lately now would be the time to do it.  But it will take backing of someone with deep pockets willing to spend the money.

I agree that now would be the time to do this.  The NCAA is not what it was 20 years ago when they put their edict in place.

Honestly the nickname issue is a dead horse that people want to constantly bring up over and over again because of "Heritage" or something to that nature. Can anyone actually point to anything besides hockey or Athletics in general that used "Fighting Sioux" as part of the brand identity for UND? I certainly don't remember anything done compared to the level that is the current branding and messaging for UND.

The tribes weren't unified in liking it, so who are we really bringing the nickname back for if we went back to it?

Not worth the money or the hassle. The NCAA will be only part of the problem. The tribes didn’t unite in favor of the name when it could have made the difference.
We can better spend the required millions on Coaches salaries, upgrades to the Betty, NIL funds etc. To resurrect a dead issue that doesn’t win games, that doesn’t improve results, doesn’t improve coaching doesn’t make sense.
Just my opinion. The legal issues can be debated by attorneys but I only see it has a negative issue that will take focus away from any positive happenings.

Seems like the new/younger hockey fans think it's as easy as just declaring that we want the name/logo back. It was much more than the NCAA just asking UND to retire the logo.

Just a completely ignorant statement, that I can only assume is based on nothing but one's own minute snapshot of experiences, oblivious to the history of the University.

You maybe could benefit by revisiting a Dacotah yearbook or two.

You would see the Fighting Sioux was engrained in every aspect of not only sports, student spirit, Greek life, of course aviation... but The Fighting Sioux Battalion of the ARMY ROTC... which at times throughout the 20th century was literally a mandatory part of every male UND students' requirements for graduation.

Basically every aspect what the University of North Dakota has been since at least the late 40s, up to retirement had the "Fighting Sioux identity" as a core foundation.

Just because you don't remember it, doesn't mean it didn't exist.

And now is not the time to bring the Fighting Sioux nickname back.

There will be a time when the NCAA isn't really a thing anymore and it won't be the issue.  There will also be a time when the winds of political victimhood ideology shifts to "The evil oppressors stole our glorious name of honor, we want it reinstated"

Nor should it in any way just be handed to some joe blow off the street to make money of t-shirt sales. Very disappointed to see the Engelstad support for this, she aught to know better.

The University can and should abide by the conditions of maintaining it and should vigorously pursue punitive monetary judgements on those using it without proper licensing.

They need to make an example out of someone.

Perhaps the Sioux tribes will realize that a bunch of Chippewa pulled a fast one and had them relegated.
