Hambone Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Yeah, we were joking today that he looked bigger in his weight room Twitter feed pics. Smith isn't as slight as Dulin but he's got room to grow. He's very young, too. Dulin is the one that is really thin and lanky, then again so was Golloday and look what happened there!I've heard the comparisons of Dulin to Golladay coming in. I think as long as Dulin is willing to put in the work there's no reason for him not to be successful. 1 Quote
Teeder11 Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 In my opinion, quarterback play will make or break this season - other positions have been solidified but in order to compete with the top programs we need good to great qb play. We have been waiting a long time for someone to step up (or, in Molberg and Bartles case just play up to their hype) - these guys have been in the program long enough - time for someone to become a stud. Very true. And to add to the frustration, I've heard that former North Dakota red shirt QB Palendech is in the running to start at FBS UNLV. Hmmm? Quote
geaux_sioux Posted August 8, 2015 Author Posted August 8, 2015 I always thought he and Riddle were very good QB recruits. Funny that Muss and co couldnt find DL players to save their lives but WR and QB were no problem. 1 Quote
Sioux>Bison Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 Excited to have bubba lead his team. He is what this school needed. Now it's time to put those sick helmets to use! Quote
Dagger Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 What is the story with Mav Edmunds no longer being with the team? Quote
Popular Post Teeder11 Posted August 9, 2015 Popular Post Posted August 9, 2015 (edited) Bubba brought a different tone to practice today than at any other time I can recall. He called out the team for practicing lazy and weak, and admonished the team's upperclassmen for allowing it to happen. He said the team needs leaders and it needs them now. He added if you're not tough, you won't play in games. Day 2 take aways.Iwarri was the best looking RB today. His speed and moves are quite apparent..in fact, three players stood out today and showed they are flat out burners: Smith, Santiago and Georges. I continue to to be extremely impresses with Seibel and Alex Reed at WR. Both are lunch pail guys who snarf up anything thrown in their vicinity. Very very good posession receivers. TE Ruhe tweaked his leg today and sat out most of practice. He was walking well on his own power and should be ok. The safety tandem of Johnson and Arnell is very good. The freshmen QBs progression from Day 1 to Day 2 was very noticeable. They looked much better today. Studsrud, Mollberg and Bartles were equally solid. Greely and Carrothers had nice rushes around the outside that would have resulted in big TFLs.All in all a good day with beautiful weather, just need a little more sense of urgency and for some guys to step up and be more vocal in addition to their leading by example. Thanks for a great update, Teeder. I was very encouraged by your observations regarding Smith, Santiago, and Georges; those three may help address one of this team's greatest needs: players that have the ability to break one every now and again. Was very concerning, though, that Bubba had to dress the team down for practicing lazy and weak on only the second day of practice. Need upperclassmen leaders to step up and lead the way. Quote
SWSiouxMN Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 Looks like Bolduc has left the team, and Miller hinted at another defensive addition early next week...Another DL or Corner? Quote

UND-FB-FAN Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 Status of Defense??? Noseguard and corner appear to be the only real question marks on the defense. The defensive end, linebacker, and safety spots are improved if anything. No Hinojosa is the big one, in my opinion. Corner has added some solid additions -- in Jahmere Irvin-Sills and Vashon Tucker -- and will have returners like Deion Harris, Chris Brown, and Chris Carter, but the noseguard spot is going to come down to how capable redshirt freshman Tank Harris and true freshman Steve Greer are. Wouldn't be surprised to see a typical defensive end play a lot of noseguard, like Carrothers, newcomer Noah Johnson, or Cieslak. Quote
nodak651 Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 How will our punting game look this year now that Bolduk is gone? Assuming 2013 starter Meindel will play? Who is better? Quote

UNDBIZ Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 I always preferred MeindelSame here. Bolduc didn't help us in the field position game at all last year. Quote
nodak651 Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 (edited) Thanks guys. That's kinda how I felt too. Felt like there was more to be desired with our punting game last year.Pumped for this season! Edited August 10, 2015 by nodak651 Quote

Totally agree with this. At some point you gotta earn it, or you're a JAG (just another guy), as Parcells used to say. Quote
homer Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 The O line play the last few years hasn't been good enough for me to form a fair opinion on either guy. They have looked good at times, bad at times all while having to dodge oncoming pass rushers consistently. Key to the offense this season is O-line play. Quote

That's why I tend to be keen on Studsrud, if for nothing else, his mobility. I always seem to get less upset when Keaton holds the ball an extra second or so and then takes off up field. Popular Post Teeder11 Posted August 10, 2015 Popular Post Posted August 10, 2015 (edited) A spirited practice today at Memorial Stadium following Sunday's little butt chewing.Lots of chirping and squawking between WRs and DBs to the point where Coach Freund had to step in and take control. A good teachable moment by Coach Freund. That guy's got a bright future! There was also some contact after the whistle on some plays. Suffice it to say, the edginess among players moved up a notch today.Taubenhiem did double duty today for the most part with kicking and punting, as Meindel was a bit sore from Sunday's practice. Got to keep Meindel fresh as he's the only true punter on the roster with the departure of Bolduc. The only thing I've heard is that Bolduc no longer desired to play football.TE Ruhe did not practice today, instead he was a sideline presence for the most part, walking on his own power with no cruches or hard braces or anything like that. He tweaked his leg yesterday.WR Hartness hurt his leg and walked off on his own power to the training room. I think UND and maybe the Herald will be putting out info today on the arrival of Vashon Tucker. The last play of the last drill was an INT by Reyes. But someone from the Offensive side of the ball shouted "Nice push-off, Ocho," signalling that Reyes may have took liberties during the leap and grab.Running backs were running hard again today. Smith looked good and fast again. Arrington ran the hardest that I have seen him run since his arrival at UND.RB Norberg had a nice run up the gut but then ran smack dab into a Ratelle Wall. It was a case of the irresistible force meeting the immovable object! ( :Fresh off a nice story int the Herald about Disterhuapt, the young linebacker continued to try and insert himself into a leadership role by helping the young LBs and DBs during drills. He's a smart kid with a lot of heart.Fullback play, included Adler, Iverson and Coyne. Adler and Coyne were very effective on runs and catches, and Adler is a very good blocker. He sealed a key block on a play that went for more yards than it probably should have.Nothing eventful or anything to write home about today about the QB competition, other than some of the quick passes to the flats tend to sail way over the WRs heads. They've got to get that throw down. That an easy 5-10+ yards if executed right.Wish I could tell you more about the hogs on the OL but I didn't see anything that jumped out at me. The young guys are getting acclimated and there was a couple of botched snaps. See you later! Edited August 10, 2015 by Teeder11 5 Quote
UNDColorado Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 I would be more concerned about how Stockwell got his girlfriend than his playing ability. I really appreciate the detailed updates Teeder. Thanks and keep up the good work! 1 Quote
darell1976 Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Teeder, thanks for the practice scoop, it helps us that can't make it. One question does the run and pass blocking look improved from spring or from last year that you could tell? Quote

I especially like Adler on the edges and the way he protects the QB. Quote
