Imagine an FBS playoff that mirrors the NFL.  Only with no Conferences (and no reseeding after the first round).  Teams ranked 1-12 get in with the top 4 teams getting a bye.  First and second round games are hosted by the higher seed.  Semifinals and Championship still remain the same with 2 Bowl games and the Championship game.  Imaging 11 FBS playoff games instead of just 3!!

This is even better than the 8 team playoff I posted about a month ago.

Biggest argument for people against expanding the playoffs is "every game matters".  Well, in this scenario, getting a top 4 seed is huge.  Hosting a quarterfinal game and getting a bye when your opponent just played the week before is a huge advantage.  As long as the TV revenue (which would be massive" is shared amongst the schools or conferences of teams participating, this would be a no brainer.  Think hoer amped everyone gets about the NCAA basketball tournament.  This would be no different.

Of course, this makes too much sense, so it will never happen.

Memphis should be the representative of the G5 this year, although they lost to Penn State in a bowl.

12 makes more sense the 8, as the cash dispersed will probably triple and at least one G5 could be guaranteed.  At least then the G5 wouldn’t be seeded directly against the #1 seed, but probably the #5.

Need to have conference champs get an autobid.  Treat it the same way the NFL treats Division champs.   If you want the regular season, and more games, to be meaningful and for every game to matter then you need to make conference races important.

I disagree with the "every game matters" in the regular season crowd the way things sit right now.  It's BS.  Only a couple of games each season matter at all.  In fact, I can list which games mattered this season:

LSU v Alabama
LSU v Auburn
Alabama v Auburn
Georgia v Florida
Georgia v Notre Dame
Georgia v LSU - CCG
Oregon v Utah - CCG
Oklahoma v Baylor
Ohio State v Penn State
Ohio State v Michigan
Ohio State v Wisconsin - CCG

That's about it.  Clemson didn't play a meaningful game, at least not one where anybody reasonably expected them to be at risk of losing.

Given the massive number of CFB games in a season the number of games that have an impact on the playoffs and the NC race is pitiful.

It's mis-seeded.

1 should play the 8/9 winner.
2 should play the 7/10 winner.
3 should play the 6/11 winner.
4 should play the 5/12 winner.
