I agree. I believe our student section has been weak for years. Our non-student fans aren’t any better. As a fan base we do travel well and can get loud. Our band is great. I don’t believe we generate the same energetic atmosphere we once had.

Yzerman19 points out what a difference the fans can make to create an energetic atmosphere and he is correct. Penn State’s entire fan base knows their cheers. Same for University of Wisconsin fans.
At a Regional final in Madison years ago, their entire fan base, including the “cotton tops” knew their cheers. Wisconsin also has a number of songs in addition to their fight song and Alma mater and they all know them. They play them at graduation, weddings, reunions etc.

We don't have that right now. We had the “Snake Pit” in BB many years ago, we had the “Farce” for a number of years. If you sit next to those fans having beers, a lot of their stories involved their shenanigans. This group of students can get together in 15-20yrs and reminisce about yelling “he sucks sh..”.  We older fans are just as guilty.  The best fans don’t need to wait until we are back at the F4.  We need to do the little things as fans that might fire up a team or impress a recruit and their families.  We need to dig a bit deeper for our favorite sports do we don’t loose key players cuz of NIL, and can afford to incentivize if necessary, key recruits to come here.

The green coats at REA don't help matters either

yep...I have personally been to a wedding of a former Wisconsin player and a bunch of the guests started the varsity chant at the reception.

Karl had official interview yesterday. Smaby also. Chaves told Jax if he gets job to clean house.

Wish someone would tell Armacost that!

360 got much better with the addition-by-subtraction concept

Over the years you hear things. But some of it is told to you in confidence. I remember being told something by an SID and then being told do not put that in a blog post. You have to respect that.

I guess I was way wrong.  I just didn't think the AD and coaches would immediately inform a bunch fans on this board about important and confidential interviews and hiring decisions.

Story:    A friend from my home town had a journalism degree and was interested in acquiring the weekly hometown rag.  When he didn't act on it, I asked what was up.  He said that so many people asked him whether he was going to consummate his desire to take over the paper, he decided the community didn't need a paper.

Several former players are now parents living & working in the Valley and beyond with children in their local youth hockey programs. Some even on this board. Former connections to UND athletes & their sharing confidences is not nor should be a line to be crossed dishing to strangers.

I was a journalist/reporter for a cup of coffee but even I know what “off the record” means. In short, have your story ready for when the news really breaks.

Sometimes you interview an internal to hear what they would change should they get the job and thus learn the real inside issues that senior executives have no idea exist.

I thought about this angle as well.  However, in this situation I sure hope this was done to get the full picture prior to firing Berry. Schloss reported that many players and staff had already taken the opportunity to meet with Chaves (both in season and post-Berry dismissal).

The other explanation is they might be interviewing plausible “finalists” they can name publicly to protect the identities of any external finalists. My guess is any currently employed coaches aren’t going to want their names on the finalist list if they don’t get it. So enter Simpson and Karl.

Jason Herter book it

Well, that partially fits what I’ve heard. For those who didn’t think he would be interested and apply, it does sound like he did apply and made it passed the first round of screening to get an interview, along with a few others who have UND ties and have been mentioned at times in this thread. Yes, Jax is also in the mix but unlike what someone else said, Karl didn’t seem to get an interview and I have no idea if he even applied.

fully acknowledge all of this as rumor and I what I’ve heard is secondhand and not direct from the supposed inside source.

isn’t this so much fun!  Also was told that it’s likely that that announcement comes tomorrow. We will see!
