It really is stunning to me how much I feel that things can be turned around. I think I (along with many others) was probably a little too focused on the records of potential coaches, and less on what their outside experience could bring to the table. If you recall, I was pretty big on Bolte, Caruso, and Woodley, all phenomenal coaches at a lower level. But seeing Schmidt these last few days is like opening your eyes to the 2020s of college football, and I don't think any of those aforementioned names could have done that in the way Schmidt has. Big upgrade for UND to have that FBS knowledge of what high-end kids are going to be focused on. Big time excited for the future. 1 6 Quote

If I had to guess I think he will retain at least one from both sides of the ball. I think Dosch will be back in some sort of roll, just based on his history with Schmidty. I'd keep Kostich as I mentioned last week. I like Joel but as a position guy, probably safeties, but T. Stepps is there and probably can't keep both. I wouldn't keep anyone else especially the guy that wanted your job. I don't know Kirkwood but RBs have been strong. I don't think Dosch is the right fit under Schmidty, it's a weird dynamic. 1 Quote

Heard he’s been connecting with HS coaches in his previous recruiting area informing them he’s remaining on staff. 8 Quote

It’s all relative to the field. There will be some retention, but there also inevitably needs to be an infusion of some new talent that knows the way, the DeBoer way, and to recruit the west coast. The press conference was impressive, the feedback from so many has been positive and it’s a great hire. ‘Go Hawks. 5 Quote

Says doing interviews Wed and Thurs for key positions. Have to go thru university hiring process and expect to have 8 of 10 positions finalized in the next 5-6 days. 1 Quote
Nodak78 Posted December 13 Posted December 13 Not only do we have our guy. I really believe we have the Best HC in the FCS. The players will run through 6' thick walls for Schmidt because he will do it for his players. I'm telling you a quick turn around. 1 Quote
SiouxFan100 Posted December 13 Posted December 13 From the forum - we can only hope “The NCAA on Thursday moved the 2026 and 2027 Division I FCS national championship games to FirstBank Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee, the result of a two-year renovation to the current title home in Frisco, Texas.” 1 Quote
forksandspoons Posted December 13 Posted December 13 One thing I hope to see Schmidt do is go after the Red River kid who committed to SDSU. Quote

It’s about confidence, mojo, and swagger - like he said in press conference - more than anything, and the injection of that that this program and fan base is getting and will get is quite incredible. 3 Quote
The Sicatoka Posted December 13 Posted December 13 It's the 2020s. Add "hype man" to list of required HC skills. 1 Quote
