The school should have little to do with it. The Athlete should go market themselves or the business should reach out to them. That's exactly what companies like Opendorse help to facilitate. By the letter of the law (rules), it's perfectly legal, and UND can create a partnership with a company like that. UND wouldn't have anything to do with which players or companies do or don't choose to participate, and UND would have no involvement with any of the resulting NIL agreements. Quote

How do other schools know which recruits to pay without any direction from the University? Intermediaries?? Quote

Can people around here quit bitching about "Chaves taking a wait and see approach to NIL." He has to take a wait and see approach. The school cannot be involved in NIL deals. By NCAA regulation he must "wait and see" what other people do about it. You can poo-poo sports and winning but without Sports what would the educational institutions look like.....probably just big, broke, on-line tech schools. 3 Quote

It was misguided, however, as they acted like moving up to D1 means they are playing Duke every week in basketball etc. Instead it was the Summit League. Anyone with a brain knew that going FCS for football wasn't that massive of a jump. Just like going from FCS to G5. When Bison fans latch on to something it really takes on a life of its own. It quite impressive. Like 30K at the Metrodome for the UM game. And "nobody at FBS level will even answer our calls" I find it interesting in how the narrative has changed with time. Quote

UND1983 Posted October 7, 2022 Posted October 7, 2022 Just for the record, if NDSU goes up to "FBS", we are saying that it really isn't that big of a jump and they will do fine. Literally nobody is doubting them. Quote

Literally nobody is doubting them. It’s a big jump but they could be respectable. They have a rapidly growing community and they have made their FB team the focus of their school. People want to associate with success and they have been very successful. They have a community where they have a local media station providing coverage of their games to the entire state and parts of Minnesota and S Dak. They have many area businesses that want to latch on and associate with that success. They have more than enough businesses that will pay for the handful of suites, who will provide tickets, tailgating for their employees and have made their destination games and playoff games events to reconnect with former college friends and FM connections. Granted if they start to struggle things can change but they have the resources to recover faster. They have shown over the years they will do almost anything to support the program. They can likely be competitive against good FBS teams and have proven that. FBS playoffs and National Championships are a big stretch but they and other FCS and even D2 teams have proven they can recruit FBS and future NFL. Beating the very best is a stretch though. Quote

I think both teams win more than they lose. Recent move up history would actually back that. The biggest difference is the understanding that your season is just for one bowl game. They aren’t getting any more fans or charging any more for tickets than they do now. I hope while they are working on getting into Conference USA, the remaining Dakota schools and Montana schools are trying to figure out how we can make a move together than give them the finger when they ask to come back in. Montanas don’t want to play or recruit in the Midwest. They want to stay in the west. MWC or a FBS WAC is what they want Quote

But that wears off pretty quick in a G5 that won't be fighting for national championships Quote
