How many times do you practice handing the ball off to your all American RB vs how many times you practice having your alm American RB hand off.

I’ll play percentages and hand the ball off to him vs have him take a snap.

At a critical point in the game you don't try a trick play that tricks your own players which is why I wonder extensively that play was practiced.

We only seem to run them either early in game or at dumb points when we are winning. Never when we are behind and a successful one could help.

All winnable with DECENT play calling

And makes these harder. BC we know we should've won atleast 3 of these games and we shot ourselves.

Either way I do not like the status quo. We can compete with the MVFC but I do not like 1-4 in the year when some of our top talents are gone next season.

According to the radio announcers they said home clock operator was about 20 seconds late in starting the clock a little earlier in 4th quarter too. Add that to our mismanagement of clock and that probably cost us the game. But then we add in our miscues on a couple of 4th down plays  and we gave that game away in so many ways.

Don't hold your breath waiting for tough questioning from our sportswriters - they will sometimes mention things in columns but face to face they will never press - like when Bubba went for it on our 20 he got away with mumbling something like "I thought we would make it" and no one pressed further.  Not blaming the individuals, that just how the system works.  Although to be fair, I would have worded my question something like "what in the F were you thinking?".

I agree, if they ask tough questions they lose access.  Might have been the end of an era today.

Players Play and Coaches coach.. or at least that is what I have heard.

Having a young man make a mistake while going all out or or something similar is one thing

Having a coach with 30+ years of coaching experience regularly make questionable game decisions at critical moments is a different thing.  They get paid decent amounts to do better then that.

Yep

A week ago I was bragging up our secondary. Today, when it counted, they were torched

IMO there was likely an incredible let down after the botched 4th down trick play.  Not defending porous defense, just stating a likely scenario.

Probably an even bigger let down after the later fumble on 3rd down.

I can't imagine there isn't some serious heated conversations happening between the staff.  At some point folks internally will have to start asking WTF is going on.

But they were getting big yards on the secondary all day...or at least through the first half that I was able to watch.

You are right.  It wasn't great.

The defense did give up almost a third of MSU total yardage on those las t2 drives.  Just seemed like a total collapse, at least it did over the radio.

If these bonehead calls and losing games was in hockey what would the fan base be saying

Different standard and culture, from top/down. If hockey, $ would be there to fire/replace incompetent coaches.

Ultimately, Bubba will be UND’s coach in 2022 unless he retires/resigns. New coach in 2023 at earliest.
