I was thinking they would do something like this and keep the interlocking ND logo. Could have had both and use the interlocking logo as an academic logo and scrap the flame one.

I think emotions were still too high at the time the logo came out, I would say this would be a massive improvement on the current logo. I wouldn't expect that they will ditch the current logo anytime soon, but eventually they might give this a look in order to try an generate more sales... I think the fact that its from the artist who designed the Last Fighting Sioux logo might help.

I was actually more disappointed that the interlocking ND logo was retired than the Sioux logos.  That one was my favorite.  Plus, I didn't think it was going to be retired, so it kind of took me by surprise.
