Question: I was under the impression that UND wasn't allowed to use the interlocking "ND" logo in any official capacity. Something to do with Notre Dame, copyrights, etc. Was that true for a period of time? Or was my impression mistaken? Thanks. Quote

Many do not know UND had the interlocking “N” and “D” logo before the University of Notre Dame. But the University of Notre Dame trademarked the logo first. Notre Dame then manifested an agreement with UND which allowed our school to continue to use the logo, but only 10% of sales with that logo could go to athletics, with a cap of $100,000. All other funds must go to the University to be used on anything but athletics. This reason is to be believed to be a driving factor for the push for a new name and logo. ****This is from the Dakota Student in 2017.**** I believe Kennedy was driving force behind ending the use of the interlocking ND as they pushed the Hawks logo 1 Quote
