2026-27 University of North Dakota Hockey Season

NIL does add some degree of complexity for them, but, in my opinion, they'll succeed in bringing in plenty of good players because the talent pool is larger than ever. Maybe they won't net the very best of the available talent, but doesn't seem like they need to do that to be successful anyways.

Was there as well for that trip....but if they do that, I hope they at least get three whole periods out of their opponents unlike at Conte. -

Agree with this. Denver sucking for so much of the title game made me feel better about the UND game. Like I told my buddy, Wisconsin played like a Mankato team with Big Ten level of talent. When their effort level is as high as it was, it's really tough to compete against. Credit to Wisconsin for getting that level of talent to play that type of game. But, of course, the ginger finds a way to prevail. -
It's a miracle, Hicks lives. Thought he passed for a moment.

This was a huge area where Dane had the foresight to do what he did in having a dedicated GM and his thought process to recruiting compared to what Berry was doing. It really feels like we are in an advantageous spot in relation to our peers for the first time in awhile.

The SEC and to some extent the ACC have been paying athletes long before NIL. Now, NIL allows the rich B1G schools to play on even footing and the results are showing. The Big Ten alumni base has long been known as some of the wealthiest and dedicated fanbases in the country as a whole, even for the lower end programs. That doesn’t mean the SEC or ACC won’t have any sort of success going forward, but the Big Ten is back to being the bully on the block.

There had been so much obviously wrong with Berry for more than a few years and the ostriches kept their heads buried because he was a "nice guy"...except he isn't actually that nice. -
Because some people care about the details.

As a former Sconnie, we have a better chance on the ice than out-drinking them.

Yep, we are the host.

Merrimack knocked off Quinnipiac 4-1 in their lone match earlier this year. -

I don't give a hoot if I'm beating a dead horse or not like all the Berry lovers like to say....but those who argued to keep Brad were all wrong. Even if we go to Vegas and get smoked, switching up coaches was the right call. -

Just got home from work, how come no UND fans went to the game? -
I wasn't looking to ever sell any of my black Nike jerseys, but I have an authentic size 48 if the price is right.

Does Blais count? If not him, I can't think of one ever. Might be an obscure one I can't think of.

I think many are overreacting, but I think there's an interesting question in what you said. Before I get to it, everyone should remember how difficult we've been to score against all year. As the season has gone on, the stakes have ramped up, and we still kept pushing higher in the NPI despite playing what looks like looser hockey. I think our opponents place a bigger target on our back when we're ranked as highly as we are and the season starts culminating toward playoff hockey. Does that mean a 5-1 loss on home ice is suddenly acceptable? No, but not a huge cause for panic quite yet. Duluth is a top 6 team in the country, hates us, and has a multiple-time championship head coach. In a one-and-done, if you don't bring your A-game, this will bite you. Dane will use it as a teaching moment and we'll be ready to go in Round 1 of the NCAA. But, jumping back to .357's point...assuming these mistakes are as prevalent as what some want to say...I wonder if there's a difference in having a head coach now who played as a forward throughout his career versus having Brad or Hak who were both defensemen. I don't think it means much, especially with Dane having been behind the bench for almost 20 years in some capacity, and we have Smaby and Simpson helping out (both defensemen), but was just an interesting thought.

Need chippahs and strong leadership. That's a tiny part why a coaching change was needed at UND.

Agree...but we can't have many consecutive years of one-and-dones either. Even when Berry was winning conference titles but getting bounced, the team didn't pass the eye test for me. But, everyone was like "we won the conference, so all is great", but you could see the writing on the wall a lot of the time. The 2020 season that got cancelled was a great example of a season where I feel we way outperformed our actual talent. #1 team in the country and all, but it didn't seem like a team that would go very deep in the tournament to me. Conversely, this team passes the eye test. All three phases of our team can win the game for us. If they are all clicking, we're extremely dangerous. The scary part is, I don't think all three phases have clicked at the same time, but if you could put it all together in late March and April, anything is possible for this team. -

I wasn't 100% sure Dane was the right guy either, but it was hard to fathom how anyone could think that keeping Brad was the right move. It's amazing what some accountability and forward-thinking can do in a single year. Even if we somehow fizzle out in the playoffs this year, you can tell we're on the right trajectory again.
