SiouxSherm94
Frank Seravalli at TSN reporting this morning that the Flyers have fired Ron Hextall. The man who made the move to bring in Hak is officially gone, and things seem to be pointing in the same direction for our former head coach as well. Thoughts? Ron Hextall was brought in to do MAJOR cleanup on a roster that had no depth or farm system and a crap ton of bloated contracts. He was in the midst of it but his one fault was he never went after a solid #1 goalie and that is what has affected them the most in the past 4 years. I am afraid that Hak will be gone in due time and it doesn't have anything to do with her performance. He was given a !@#!$ team and was expected to turn them into champions.

They have so many great young prospects, but in the NHL you don't have a lot of time to let them gel together, because people want you to win now, especially in Philadelphia. You look at how close the standings are, and most teams that go on a 5-6 game winning streak or losing streak can find themselves in or out of playoff position. SWSiouxMN
Don't they have the 2nd coming in the AHL that could solve their goalie problems? Or are they still waiting

Of course you wouldn't want to be doing that in your 70's, that would just be pathetic. 2

Hak got them to the playoffs twice in 3 seasons and expectations were to continue on the upswing this season which they still could. Hextall's major thing to accomplish this year and next was to find a goaltending bridge until their young stud goalie is ready....5 goalies in 23 games indicates that he did not get this accomplished. A little unfair as he has done a great job of getting their farm system rebuilt and on the way to getting salary cap back under control.

Shawn-O
I saw in Schlossman's article that Hakstol is the 4th most tenured coach in the league currently. Anyone else find that to be a shocking statistic? Wow.

Cratter
The NHL loves to recycle NHL coaches. They jump from team to team. The question is will Hakstol land another NHL head coaching job after he's fired.

Technically yes but that stat also doesn't respect the overall coaches body of work for career either... technically Hak has longer tenure than Babcock.... Babcock has a bit more experience in the National league.

Keep missing tourneys and recruits and sadly it wont be his choice. Still solidly in the Berry camp but i feel a great disturbance in the Tradition of Excellence.

Goon
I am confused here. We had fans that wanted Hakstol fired after taking UND to seven Frozen Fours, but came up short. The Hakstol Haters got their wish when he moved on. Many were cheering. Good riddance. Enter Brad Berry, he wins a National Championship during first season. Fans want statue of Berry erected in front of the Ralph. Then after a couple down years, now fans are already thinking Berry is gone this spring if UND doesn’t make the tourney. My head is spinning.

SiouxTupa
Speculation is that if ownership thought Hak should go, he would be gone too. Assistant(s) will probably shuffle, but it seems likely that Hak will have some more time yet. But this shows they want to win now, and are done playing the slow game. If they get him some better pieces, and they still don't win a series, Hak will presumably be next.
