If Faison gives Jones a contract extension.....it is FAISON who should be cleaning out his office. Then the new A.D. can get rid of Jones.

I have seen absolutely zero indication of that being a remote possibility at this point.

Maybe jones needs to yell and jump around more on the sidelines

Looks like a clown, in my opinion. It's just too excessive and, most importantly, ineffective.

He does that while the opposing coach is sitting down with a 20-point lead.

If Jones were to be let go, who are legitimate candidates? Two that come to mind are Walthall from MSUM and Craig Smith from USD.

really Smith will drop to a lower RPI conference and his 185k salary to coach at und where the HC has never topped 100k

I have never heard of this before. That sucks.

It's a problem for them. Similar to ND's open records law, which discourages many presently employed people from applying for high-profile public jobs such as coaches, a.d.'s or university presidents.

Probably not him.  But the next coach is going to make around 150K if past history of pay increases holds true.  Somebody who is worth it will make more money.

One-year contracts in South Dakota.

smith took a pay cut and assumed the one year contract risk to take USD job...Do not see UND likely to top out at 125k for nex HC

I don't expect Smith to come to UND. We had our chance and Buning blew it. But I do think the next coach gets $150k.

Everything you say consists of pessimism.

First it was Brian Jones is a great coach that isn't going anywhere.

Then it was Brian Jones may get fired, but it won't be until the end of the season if he does.

Now, you're implying Jones may get the axe but you're also saying UND is a lowly destination that won't be able to hire any quality replacements because of low RPI and a low projected salary.

Quite frankly, with that track record, I don't think UND men's basketball fans have to worry too much about what you're saying.

Walthall would be a great coach for UND.  Look at what he did at MSUM?!!  I would be on board with that hiring!

Any thoughts on Boschee coming over from BSU?  I know his stock might be down after last season...

Just trying to think of some of the not so obvious names.

Well, one positive out of last night: another name for the list ...

Chad Walthall: http://www.msumdragons.com/staff.aspx?staff=84

Mike Boschee: http://www.bsubeavers.com/athletics/staff/6128/mike-boschee/

Jeff Boschee: http://www.mssulions.com/coaches.aspx?rc=26

Nigel Jenkins: http://www.waldorfwarriors.com/roster/13/1/3690.php

I like that list a lot.

I like Nigel, but not sure he 's quite ready for the UND job yet.

I would substitute Craig Smith for Nigel Jenkins, assuming he's 'gettable', which may or may not be the case.

Picking from those 4 would be a nice start.

Shouldn't the most important part of the equation be a great head coaching resume not a connection to UND?

I see one with a great historical resume (his teams have gotten better every year). And he oddly doesn't belong amongst the other three for some reason.
