The penalty shot looked weak on slow motion replay but in real speed it looked like the slash may have caused his shot to go off course. Either way the refs would be criticized. The player should not have slashed him and then there would be no call.

When Tim Hennessey interviewed him, Boeser even said he didn't think it was a penalty.

I was 200 feet away, no comment on penalty shot.  

Cam came up big when he needed to.  He'd tell you he wants both of those back.  Clean looks on both.

IMHO....d pairings:  Poolman-Poolman, Ausmus-Shaw, Wolanin-Johnson.

Penalty Shots are hard:

Game Speed the D man was burned

Boeser gets a shot off, but the stick is making contact little but of a slash maybe a slight tug for a hook

It's enough that at game speed the shot goes wide and takes away a legitimate scoring opportunity

There were a few that questioned the poganski penalty shot last season. This and that are not even comparable. Bemidji got completely hosed on the call, and UND capitalized. Shame on the refs. Even my wife, who is usually pretty apathetic couldn't believe it.

Oh well, glad we won

And according to the NCAA article last week, it is not a new rule, but an old rule being enforced starting this season.

Peski can not play tonight. If Wolanin can't go then give Chartland as chance.

Wilkie is starting to remind me of Murphy.....'nuf said.

Bowen was a healthy scratch. That's a head scratcher.

Maybe I expected more but still waiting for Jost to be terrific. To his credit great on faceoffs but I'm looking for more offensively from him.

Minus the softie Cam was really good.

Tucker is in a class by himself on the blue line.

Speaking of class by himself 16 was the best player on the ice by a wide margin.

Penalty shot was a gift IMO.

UND's on ice leadership won that game. Underclassmen need to step up tonight.

Anyone notice how BSU was the last to leave the ice at pregame warmups, and last to break the huddle just before puck drop? 

The last couple years I've kind of paid attention to that and someone usually makes sure that doesn't happen. Stetcher or was it Cags, would never have let that happen last season. Wonder if it's just cause we have no superstitious players this year?

Perhaps BSU should've been awarded a penalty shot for our slash on their mini-breakaway.

My two cents:

Our defense needs to make better improvements week to week. Our backend is our weakness. 

Peski - did have a lot of turnovers. The college transition is eating him alive right now. Mistakes will happen. Stay positive. Get better. 

C. Poolman - He's been solid. Very impressed by him. Biggest surprise so far. 

C. Johnson - You can see the nerves. Is getting better. Bottom line, like Peski, stay positive. Get better weekly. Set small goals. 

Gage - Great leader and captain. You look lost this year. Need to find your game without your partner Stetcher. 

Bowen - ? If our D corps struggles does he go to D and start getting reps in at practice? Played D last year. It "could" happen.

Shaw - Pretty solid, good effort,  some mistakes.  Like his game.

Wolanain - Get healthy. Not himself so far this year. Made a ton of mistakes when in the lineup.

Tucker - He's been rock solid.

Collectlively, this D corps NEEDS to get better week to week. They have to set that goal and have that mindset.

You're correct the D needs to improve.  I'm chalking this up to a below average game, those happen.  We're lucky we have a few guys that can take over.  I thought all three frosh dmen had their poor moments, 4 and 6 had some pretty terrible pinches.  4 specifally made some costly errors.  But that is going to happen and get corrected with PT.  All our frosh D are solid and none should sit for Bowen going back to D.  Everyone has bad games, I thought tucker played poorly last night (for him anyways).  He was out of position a ton and had some really bad pinches.  But he's dynamic, so he has that freedom I guess.  Coaches will see that in the video room and correct.  It's early in the season and mistakes will be made. Especially the young guys.

Concur. As a whole, the D-corps just needs to get better week to week.

For two periods Casey Johnson looked like the only D who could skate well enough to keep up. 

UND was lucky to win. 

It might be worth the trip to Brrmidji to watch MSU-M vs BSU series this year.
