Csonked Out Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 I can't be there so everyone that can make it all of your posts will be greatly appreciated. I am very curious to see how the offense as a whole looks, we need big improvement at every position. Thanks in advance for everyone who keeps us updated Quote
Dustin Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 Turning into a beautiful day here at Memorial Stadium. Quote
Dustin Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 With the sun out, the temp warmed into the 50s. Wind from the east less than 10 mph. Quote
Dustin Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 Scrimmage just ended. Here's my observations from a non- football mind. Others may provide better or alternative opinions! Studsrud had the better day at quarterback. Bartels threw at least two interceptions, one in the end zone. Stud stud would have had an interception if the defender hadn't dropped it. Punt team had a punt from the offense 40 yard line downed at the defense 1 yard line. Austin Cieslak had a fumble recovery that would have gone for touchdown. Josh seibel had several receptions. Offense #5 (not shown on the roster) never gives up on a play. On a fourth and inches from the goal line, the call was a pass to the corner of the end zone, which was completed. Very gutsy call if done in a game. Never been to a spring game before, so I can't judge the crowd, but there were more people here than I expected - probably around 1,000. Hopefully I'm not the only one who writes, because im pretty hopeless when it comes to a football mind! 1 Quote

No real clear standout. # 5 is Nevermann hits the line hard and never gives up. Not much opportunity given to Arrington today. Several QB/ running back exchanges looked awkward and caused plays to blow up 1st defense looks incredible. Not much of a drop off with the 2nd defense. Great depth. Good crowd on hand. 3 Quote

Still hopeful that the running game and play-action passing game will develop more from now until the start of the season. 2 Quote
FSSD Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 Frustrating to hear that it appears center/QB exchange is still a problem. They have got to get this cleaned up.. - thanks for the updates Dustin/Teeder.. Quote

They have got to get this cleaned up.. - thanks for the updates Dustin/Teeder.. No problem! Center/ QB exchanges looked fine overall. It was the handoffs to running backs that looked less-than-seamless at times. It slowed the RBs up just enough to let the DLs gobble up the play. Quote
geaux_sioux Posted April 25, 2015 Author Posted April 25, 2015 So nobody had a Kenny Golladay type spring game? Quote
forksandspoons Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 In your opinion who stuck out the most on O and D? Quote

Dustin Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 Kevin Camy on the o-line will not disappoint, I'm predicting. 1 Quote
Nodak78 Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 Just my observation but I thought Studsrud was better. first defense is tough as nails. the second did give up a few 3rd and longs. a couple of those was good presents by Studsrud. Clive is good. the receivers seemed to catch more passes today. Seibel made some nice catches. Dion Harris looked very good. Bolant made a couple good plays one interception. although needed to wrap up on one play as the receiver got away. Tank Harris and Ceislak will add nice depth. Quote
CMSioux Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 You can't tell much from spring scrimmage - just gotta hope the team was able to improve on fundamentals, implement some of next year's game plan and grow together as a team - there were 21 players held out of the scrimmage plus we know there will be some freshmen that make an impact and still a few drop-downs and/r juco's on the way. Studsrud had a better day - was it because he was playing with #1 offense? Seibel will get a lot of balls thrown his way this year, Georges is a nice addition. Neverman was the best RB Saturday - but thanks to Bohl won't see the field next year. Blackmon and Cieslak looked good - there were others that had good days - line play seem to be coming around. Still some issues with exchange in the shotgun it appeared. About 6 tailgating groups - next year the event will be in the IPF that gives UND a year to put a little more energy into this and make it more of an event - if that is even their intention. Lots of player's families and perspective recruits - a nice showing of fans but impossible to bring any kind of energy to the event from the stands. Weather cooperated nicely. Was told that Midco had looked at broadcasing scrimmage but logistics with Memorial Stadium and the scrimmage format didn't allow for it. I really don't think a spring football game at any school makes for interesting sports programming except for the real zealots - recruits are on site anyway. Quote
Dagger Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 I see where KVLY didn't even send a reporter to cover UND's spring game. Impressive. Quote

WDAY radio wasn't much better. I caught 5 minutes of Kolpacks radio show yesterday morning and practically threw up in my mouth. They had Carson Wentz's dad on and they are going on about how UND offered Carson the keys to the kingdom and probably would have been a 4 year starter, but he chose to go to NDSU knowing he'd be stuck behind Jensen for years, but look at him now. Gloat a little more about getting a great QB. I still wonder too why we let WDAY broadcast our regular season games. We seem to be outcasts to them any other time. 1 Quote

Pimping the AC has been a cottage industry for the Kolpack family for 40+ years now. As everyone knows, NDSU's in-state recruits are automatically the best players in the state by virtue of signing with the AC. Players who leave da Bizon do so solely because they were bypassed by other recruits for playing time. Jeff's a nice guy but simply cannot pass on any opportunity to take a shot at UND. I heard part of his Saturday show a few weeks ago. Hockey came up, and 50% of the conversation was Kolpack chirping about being stiffed by Hackstol on a request for an interview. He simply can't help himself. I think it's genetic. As to radio coverage, it's hard to get along without the local, regional and statewide coverage that can be provided by either KFGO or WDAY. Quote

Evidently, Jeff's bro,Dave Kolpack, didn't get the family memo. He's a UND grad who has been very fair to the University over the years. Quote

Sioux94 Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 In looking at the RB stats yesterday.....looks like in total they averaged about 1 yard/rush. We still have lots of improvement needed there, if that is suppose to be our bread and butter....running the ball, 1 yard per rush won't get it done. At least they are going up against one of the best rush defenses so they probably won't face one tougher on the rush. I realize some guys were out etc., and I think we will be better than last year but it still concerns me about not being able to get the push needed up front if we are going to primarily be a rushing team.
