Popular Post The Sicatoka Posted October 6, 2014 Popular Post Share Posted October 6, 2014 After the Montana game 2013: UND just got shellacked (55-17) and is on their way to a shellacking by Montana State (63-20). I was openly calling for Coach Mussman to be moved aside mid-season (as there was a bye week). After the Montana game 2014: UND is angry because, short of a few key controllable errors, they had legitimate opportunity to beat both Montana and Montana State. The differences? Clearly the coaching staff. A realignment to the business of defense. A team that is on the field (sidelines included) focused on the task at hand. (Hey, UND FB Team, we notice and can start to be proud again.) It was pretty dark then. The clouds appear to be breaking. We could use some blue sky and sunshine (i.e. win some big games). That will come ... It'll take continued work on the details. It'll take not losing focus on what is working now. But, that will come too ... Any sort of offense (which seems to be improving), get rid of errors, and UND wins both of those games. The offense obviously has some work to do but the problems seem to be the types that can be fixed. I do not want to get ahead of ourselves so win this Saturday and proceed from there. Good post Sic. Their ability to both recruit and coach at this level is obvious. Let some of the young talent grow in the system and get some more talent recruited in. I seem to recall games where the other team didn't have to punt, or did so only after they called off the dogs. Best players are now playing and the coaching is much improved. To top it off, the recruiting is much better too. I think Bubba has done wonders with what he was dealt...Muss couldn't have left this program in a bigger mess than he did. Muss was in way over his head from day 1 as head coach. Agree but did anyone else ever get the sense that watching Muss coach would be similar to watching an OB-GYN doctor trying to perform a vasectomy? When the players walk off the bus and through the band on their way to the Alerus, the players no longer have their headphones over their ears. Headphones are either around their necks or slid off the backside of the ears. It's the little things a guy can appreciate. Is it a big deal? Maybe. Maybe not, but it's about showing some respect for your fellow students and fans who are there to cheer you on. People notice. Bubba went to one of the marching band rehearsals and spoke to the band. I can't comment on what he said specifically because I wasn't there, but I know he went out of his way to let the band know that he, the coaching staff, and players appreciate their support. That's pretty cool. As I left the Alerus on Saturday, I was frustrated and heart broken over that game. We were so close. Right there. And if not for a couple of things that went wrong, we'd be looking at a W. But that's when it hit me. It was almost a good feeling. A feeling I haven't had for Sioux football for so long. I've gotten so used to the thrashings we've taken in recent years that losing a heartbreaker of a game is a sign that we are no longer the welcome mat. It was like when Omaha beat us in OT on a 50+ yard FG. Or when we just couldn't solve Grand Valley St. We expected to win, which is what made it so hard, and that sense of pride is slowly coming back. Sioux95 Posted October 7, 2014 Share Posted October 7, 2014 Things I heard, said, and believed up until 2 weeks ago: Our D-line is too small to get enough pressure for the 3 - 4 to work. We will be hard pressed to win another game all year. There isn't enough talent on this team to win at the FCS level. We have players who wouldn't have played at the D2 level for UND 10 years ago. We won't be competitive for 2-3 years. There is still a lot of work to be done, but I feel good about the direction this team is heading in.
