Naw, this is the one I was thinking of:

I could live with that.

Let's go Nokes!  Let's go Nokes!

Hey, nothing will ever replace Fighting Sioux, but this isn't too bad.

Just my $.02 as a member of the unofficial committee set up by the Sicatoka!

Nokotas are horses.  Nakotas are members of a Sioux tribe.  Nakota would not be acceptable by the NCAA.

Yeah, I misspelled that their word.

Animals are way better than any sort of weather like Blizzard, Freeze, Thunder, Storm, etc.

gfhockey just texted me........."Thunder Cocks".   The weather and animal/fowl requirements are both covered here.

I am absolutely nauseated to my stomach over this. Going from The Fighting Sioux to whatever the hell we will be called is a disgrace. I am not going to get over it, and I wont get over it. Growing up with it, living it, breathing it, going to school there....never, did I ONCE or anyone else i know that had gone to school there viewed The Fighting Sioux name and logo as hostile and abusive. Yet, we have to live with corrupt, white, NCAA fat-cats who think they know what's best for schools, individuals and different races of people. Had the state won that initial injunction to uncover those internal e-mails floating around the NCAA, it would have revealed a scheme conjured up by then president Brand, to make an example of pettily ole UND. The Fight Sioux to what? The Fighting Sioux to what?

I believe that was a concept created by someone over at sportslogos.net. Great effort, but if Opie Taylor was a horse, that's what he'd look like.

Honestly, it's as good as anything out there right now...

Nokota was the name I submitted, so obviously I am a big fan of it.  So whether it's Nokota, Charging Nokota, or whatever.  Any variation of it I am a fan of.  Someone on here doesn't want animals as our new nickname.  Well I would take an animal over Force, Blizzard, Flame, etc any day.  Nokota fits what I think is the most importaant criteria the commitee laid out.  It's unique.  I want UND to be the only one with the nickname it chooses.  We had that with Fighting Sioux.  We can have that with Nokota.  Compared to all the other ones out there so far, this one has to be one of the best options.   Like I said, I am a little biased!

It does suck.  This is stage 3 of the grieving.  Some are in stage 5.

Frustrating, but this argument is already over.Sucks, but at this time next year we will either be the University of North Dakota or have another nickname following it. All I can say is keep wearing the Fighting Sioux logo proudly. I know I will regardless.

Though if they do adopt a new nickname, the goal at this point should be to make it something that is not completely laughable.

That is the most fabulous horse I have ever seen. It can put Fabio to shame.

Can you imagine the Flickertails beating the Gophers in hockey or NDSU in basketball or Montana in football? The crowd will cheer and everyone is happy, or will you be in your room with your Sioux jersey on pouting because the name changed 3 years ago. Get over it, UND won't be the Sioux and a new name is coming.

I'll be cheering on the flickertails, but still probably wearing my sioux jersey. You might be able to get me to buy a flickertail hat, but I don't think anything will quite replace a Fighting Sioux jersey.

A lot of people (including me) will wear the Sioux gear until it dies but will still cheer on UND no matter what nickname is chosen, it's just sad to see people act the way Yababy8 is acting. There were more important issues like hosting playoff games, keeping conference affiliation and keeping games scheduled than keep the Sioux name and logo. UND had 5 years (2005-2010) to get tribal approval one approved, one didn't it's called life, it sucked but it's life. If you can't cheer on UND for whatever nickname is chosen I would be glad to take any tickets you want to give away.

I hear ya. Its a damn shame that we couldn't press the issue more, when we had time, to get the approval. And maybe there was nothing we could do to get the one tribe to allow a vote. Like I said a damn shame. I don't like the idea of a new name or nickname, but I think my biggest worry is that we will end up with something ridiculous. Maybe it will end up ok, but if we are the Fighting Green, for the Sun Dogs, I definitely won't buy any new apparel. Not to make a point, but because I would rather wear street clothes than don a stupid name or logo at a game.

I agree it was a shame in 5 years UND couldn't get the Standing Rock to budge maybe even through a little $$$ towards them and Spirit Lake (worked for Florida State), but the worst thing that happened was the cooling off period, because here we are talking about what UND's nickname will become this fall instead of spending time talking about UND baseball, softball, football and basketball recruiting and cheering on a nickname that would've been 5 years old. I hope when a name is picked they can market it as well as the Fighting Sioux name and logo, I know it won't reach that level (as the name and logo were unique as ever) but please market it as close as possible. Now when this is done, how long before a mascot is born?

Strong looking horse.

Shall we politely say "metrosexual" looking horse.

hth7og.jpg

You decide.

Do I have to share a bathroom with metrosexual option #2 if the horse can't decide if it is a he or a she? If so...option #1.
