The Romfo boys are a great college sports story. Small town twins whose greatest obvious assets out of HS were they were winners and good athletes, although undersized. I don’t think you have a clue as to the challenges these guys faced as PWO’s coming to play at UND. Your unhealthy fixation on Simon doesn’t make sense. He didn’t make the decisions to become the starter. He worked his butt off to get to that position. Now Jerry has worked his butt off to earn the starting position. It’s obvious that Simon is still doing whatever he can to help the team. If the time comes I would expect he will be able to step in and show that he is a better QB than he was last year. Regardless, your persistent negative comments are unwarranted this year. I would hope you now realize that even Jerry will miss wide open receivers for a TD at times or one bounce passes to receivers at times. (Please don’t post of them 20 times on ss.com). That doesn’t mean Jerry shouldn’t be QB, it means it happens to all QB’s at all levels. Who cares about whose picture is where? They did an interesting article on Simon who has played well when he has been in. It’s clear how much respect the coaches and his teammates have for him. Championship teams need guys like this. It’s part of learning to win and building a consistent winner. Guys who may have more physical abilities get motivated to do better when they see teammates doing everything they can to help the team. Give that some thought.17 points

There is not a program in the Country that doesn't want to up their talent level. The fact is that we have who we have right now and the coaching staff needs to use what they have to win as many game as possible. All indications are Simon has been a great teammate since he has got here. Just because the previous coaching staff made him the starting QB last year is not his fault. He did the best that he could. Now he is doing all the he can to help the team win. We loved the Brockstar package and when Quincy V would come in and run QB sneak, but when Simon wants to help and the coaches put in packages for him some people have a problem. Simon is a team player and the way he gets crapped on by people on this site is gross and sickening. You may say you have nothing against him personally, but you clearly do. Let it go. Your guy is QB1. Enjoy it. Looks like Jerry is clearly the best QB this year, and I'm surprised the completion was that close in Fall Camp. Its as if you want Schimidt to call and tell the Herald who they should put on the front of the page. I guarantee no one on the team cares, they just want to win.15 points

Thank you for providing the definition of 'front-running'. Absolutely despise and loathe both sides of it. I want UND to be successful in everything. Could not care less about the school in Fargo in the name of state pride.15 points

Absolutely nothing but respect for your program. Tough ending for you today, but you kicked our asses for 50 minutes today (after doing so for 30 last year). And it's rare to see a team handle WaGRIZ the way the Hawks did today. Super impressed. The few ND fans I met were fantastic; just wish I'd seen more around town so I could have bought their beers. Now, go win the Valley and let's meet in Nashville!15 points

This is a strange exaggeration. Seidl is explosive and breaks tackles oddly well for his size. I’ve seen him run through guys multiple times. Seidl and Z should split 80% of the RB touches IMO. They can each break a game open.11 points

We still don’t have the roster. It’s coming along. BTW I’m pissed because we had this game. We need to get to the point where we can drop the plow on teams in the 4th and grind them to dust even if they load the box. We were the better team and lost, that sucks. However, at the beginning of the year it felt like this year would be an uphill battle. All of a sudden the expectations have sky rocketed. Overall it’s good.11 points

It’s year one guys. Chill and respect the process. We’re way ahead at this point.11 points

Dang, Heil dressed (and played) in an NHL preseason game tonight for the Lightning. Pretty cool experience for him.9 points

Huge early season non-conference showdown: the only ranked team vs ranked team matchup in the FCS this weekend! Huge opportunity for UND football and Coach Schmidt’s program. The stage certainly won’t be too big. These are the games we need to elevate towards. Make the trip out to Missoula if you can, and if you can’t, turn on the broadcast or radio coverage and support the team to a pivotal early season victory! 2 pm (CT) kickoff Let’s Go Hawks!9 points

It’s a new day. Be positive, but no moral victories. Need to stay hungry. The two losses this season hurt. But if someone told you preseason that UND would be 1-2 at this point in the season, nearly everyone would have agreed with that. However, if someone would have said UND would have lost both its games by a combined 4 points in games at Kansas State and at Montana, I think most would have been pleasantly surprised. However, would love to be 3-0 since so close … This team is ahead of schedule, but it must capitalize on the important lessons being taught here in week 1 and week 3. This team must now develop a killer instinct. It must develop into a winner. They clearly have the coaching and confidence to compete with anyone, anywhere; but need to finish games now. I suspect they will go on a major win streak now. This program is on the uptrend. Contribute to the NIL opportunities (internal and external) and show up to games. Next up is 9/20 versus Valparaiso (Homecoming/Hall of Fame Game). Go Hawks. we’ve got everyone right where we want ‘em….9 points

Pretty much every school that knows what they are doing figures this out.. NDSu clearly has. This would be unacceptable at UND hockey.. I’m not sure why we mail it in for UND football and allow this significantly below average audio and intro. It’s really pretty embarrassing.9 points

Good move. Black jerseys ran their course, imo. Break them out once a year maybe but we treated them like our primaries for many years.9 points

A dang good article from Schloss about how UND scrambled to fill the roster spots for this season: https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/the-inside-story-of-how-und-saved-the-roster-this-summer Sounds like the coaches were traveling all over the US and Canada visiting with players, commits, and potential recruits. They certainly earned their paychecks this summer.8 points

congratulations on the win! Barber is really good. I watched the match and looked through the stats, and really, both teams played relatively well. I don't know what was happening in your non-conference games, but that didn't look like a 280-ranked team yesterday. I'll say that there were times when there was maybe some bad passing, communication issues and out-of-system play from the Hawks, but when in-system they looked as good as anyone in the conference IMHO. So if consistency is the problem, I would assume you will improve that through the season. Maybe will have some up days and down days. I wonder if there were some issues with USD's blocking schemes that Coach Tupac was exploiting? Barber hit .333 on the match, so we couldn't really contain her very well at the net. IDK, I'm no expert. Also, good on you for having over 800 attendance and a full pep band for a team with a losing record. You won't see that in very many places. Good luck on the season8 points

Some folks are slow on the up-take. UND just put a ton of new looks and wrinkles on tape that MVFC DCs need to be aware of. It almost forces a D to switch to man coverage when 11 or 6 is in the slot; if they stay in zone, step back, backwards pass, and slot QB has RPO with the opposite side receiver running post and near side running shallow cross (ready to block).8 points

Since this is the Homecoming game and I don't want to start a new thread. Rules for Homecoming. 1. No earlier than the second weekend in October. (Exception would be a weekend falling on Oct. 6-7) 2. October weekend that has both the Hockey Team and Football team at home. Bonus if Volleyball and Soccer are at home as well. 3. Figure it out.8 points

My sister-in-law, SU grad, once asked us if she could buy our sons SU clothing. My wife replied "you can buy it, but they will never wear it!" Never been prouder.8 points

I told my kids that the money we set aside for them for college could be used anywhere as long as it wasn't NDSU. I'm sure they knew I would cave if they decided to there but they didn't test it. All three of them ended up at UND.8 points

We dropped at least 4 interceptions at KSU and had a TD called back at Montana. Also missed a lot of throws and blocked a guy in the back at the goal line. We've had a LOT of player mistakes and some coaching mistakes as well. Despite that, we've been close and are seeing kids coached up and utilized like never before. Coaches are closer to elite than the players at this point, but you can see the improvement in the roster already. We'll be fine.8 points

Wow! If these people can't see the improvement, they don't have a single f’n clue about Football. There are a lot of talented new players. UND dominated Montana except on the score board and lost by a single point. The BS call on the touchdown play was ridiculous. They also should've went for field goals inside the red zone on fourthdown. Everything that happened yesterday is fixable.8 points

Ahead of schedule from a talent / on field performance. I get it, you have to win games. They will. This is a good team.8 points

Full building, and good energy in the crowd and this is the intro we go with? Just pathetic8 points

Absolutely unacceptable. Alerus Center and UND need to continue to hear about this until there is change. It would ONLY improve the product so foolish not to do it. Only barrier is it requires “work”, but they need to do their damn job … or find somebody else who will get the job done.8 points

I want more Deng Deng, mostly because I think he's good but it's also fun to say "want more Deng Deng". He looked really good on what I'll call a skinny post. For a 6'5" guy he didn't look that tall, meaning he moves well. Tai being a Sophomore, absolutely more touches and appears to be on the right trajectory. Could be ballcap and clipboard time for a few in the WR room, more beneficial to the program to develop guys with 2+ years left.8 points

I'm just hoping that ASU takes care of business against them this weekend. A decent showing against PSU would help out the league in the NPI at end of season, as you know PSU will feast on the cupcakes and have a good record the rest of the way.7 points

Valparaiso (1-2) visits Grand Forks and the Alerus Center to play UND (1-2) on 9/20/25 at 3 pm. This is purely a “time to get right” game. The winning streak starts NOW. Get out and tailgate. Most importantly pack the Alerus, enjoy the ballgame and support the team! Let’s Go Hawks7 points

In the case of "I'm from North Dakota and I don't have ties to either UND or NDSU so I cheer for both," UND needs to make it its mission for that casual fan to have more opportunities to cheer for UND than NDSU.7 points

Observant point. It was Schleusner that told me that strategy years back. Before a big game, or prior to conference, throw so many looks on film that DCs don't have enough practice time in the week to prepare for them all.7 points

Results on the field are extremely disappointing but the all important "eye test" has been mostly passed. Unfortunately the next 6 are almost "must wins" leading up to NDSU. Valpo, UNI, Youngstown, S. Illinois, Indiana St., USD. 3 of these teams are ranked and 2 others are noted as "receiving votes", so not an easy task. Valpo is a crappy football program, not sure where this conference belongs, but it's not FCS.7 points

How about the team focuses on the game, the job at hand, and what they're there for. I want to see intensity and focus. If I want to interact with the team I'll watch the "hawk walk" or attend one of the media/ fan events. The team can control the game experience, excitement, and atmosphere by doing their jobs on the field. I don't need or want them glad handing the crowd like a bunch of clowns. Once they're in the building it better be about winning. Period.7 points

Live I thought it was just a unfortunate timing and accidental with Jerry. Replay show the defender lowered his head and shoulder all the way to the ground to make sure he hit him. That probably should've been called.6 points
